Truck sounds good. I just rebuilt my 6.5 with a friends help and he ordered the engine kit and got me ceramic coated pistons. That way it stands up to the heat a little better. 👍😎

What all did you have to do for that nv4500 setup? I've been looking to do the same thing to my 85 k20
@Roadhog08 жыл бұрын
You need pedals out of a truck with hydraulic clutch (you can modify the manual pedals from what I hear though). If you have an external slave bell-housing you need a couple inches of lift and a longer bump stop on the passenger side. Otherwise the front driveshaft yoke will bump the slave and knock it out (been there). You then need a custom clutch hose made (I used an AN-3 hose with a few fittings). From there the trans bolts up, but you have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. If you have a 6.2 or 6.5, make sure to use the 6.5 clutch disc for a single mass flywheel. If you use a 6.2 clutch it rattles like a mofo!

What type of fuel filter setup you got? I just picked up an 85 k10 and I would like to change it to the spin on filter like yours. thanks.
@Roadhog08 жыл бұрын
Currently it's a 10 micron filter off of a Detroit generator. I will be soon (AKA when I get around to it) changing it over to a 10 micron CAT filter/water separator (175-2949) and a 1 micron CAT filter (1R-0750).

buy some lower compression positions from Kennedy diesel. if you lower your compression ratio to 17 or 16.5 to 1 will really help! less wear on the engine plus be able to run more boost but I would get an intercooler as well but props to you!
@Roadhog07 жыл бұрын
Andrew Lippincott I would, but that's too much money. the 6.2 isn't long for this world in this truck anyways. the truck will get a Duramax in the near future

You have to be very careful with that free flow air intake. If not placed at the right spot it will draw heat from the engine and shove it in the engine.
@Roadhog02 жыл бұрын
It's sucking all underhood hot air, it works, but loses a few HP.

Did you delete the cdr valve and run a blowby hose from the port off of the oil fill?
@Roadhog02 жыл бұрын
Yup, was lazy and deleted CDR and went to the turbo intake. Later I ran an oil separator in line cause this thing huffed a LOT of oil. Would run a CDR again next time.

3 to 4 engine rebuilds on a 6.2? Those old things are war horses! What is causing your failures?
@Roadhog06 жыл бұрын
Gary Cook Honestly, the people who built it the first time. I kept having to fix their mistakes. The last time was my fault. I used a brand of pistons that are known to crack. That was after this video it cracked another piston.
@garycook36126 жыл бұрын
Ok... Was just curious. My first truck was an '87 with the 6.2. It was a great truck for N/A. I have driven diesels ever since and have bought an '85 that I was gonna drop a Cummins in. However, I have recently been introduced to the turbo'd 6.2's and am considering that route to keep it in more of the original format. Trying to gather all the pros and cons that I can before I start shelling out dollars. Thanks for your response
@Roadhog06 жыл бұрын
No problem! I would highly recommend a turbo 6.2. It's cheap, easy, and can be pretty reliable. I am an outlier with my bad luck. It's no power house, but it's a nice setup.

Those wheels are from a newer GM, do you have to run spacers to correct the offset?

Nope, bolt up like factory.GM uses basically the same offset on everything back quite a while. You need special lugnuts though ($25 bucks on ebay).

How is that aluminum radiator sir do You recommend it or should I just rebuilt the original one

I ran that radiator a good 7 years I think without a single issue. At the price I highly recommend! The only reason I removed is the truck got a Cummins 😅

@@Roadhog0 thank you for the info I will get one hopefully it’s a good one.. that’s sweet how is she running on a Cummins ? Did your 6.2 gave up or just wanted something different?? I wanted to do that years back but I just stuck with old 6.2 diesel

Do not, but there's some info on dieselplace. It's basically bolt in minus cutting a hole in the floor and making a clutch line (use an fittings). Also use a 6.5 solid flywheel clutch, 6.2 clutch rattles at idle.
@Blakep77043 жыл бұрын
@@Roadhog0 Nice, What year and NV4500 works best? It would go into a 87 k30 with a gas motor. Think it would be a problem?
@Roadhog03 жыл бұрын
@@Blakep7704 for serviceability I like the 92-94 trans because of external slave. It needs 4" of lift on the diesel, the gas I'm not sure The passenger bump stop needs dropped about an inch as well, so that's where you may need a little lift. Internal slave wont need the lift. Should bolt up to a 350 no problem. Use the correct flywheel for your engine that is single mass and clutch to match it and you should be set.
