We had an 86 Fifth. Ours was black with red pinstripes and the leather interior. The paint job was outstanding. I was 17 and of course fascinated with any car, I'd polish it with Wesley's mirror finish car polish. We had the car for only a couple of years. Yeah the Chrysler starters had a whiny sound. That 318 just puuuurrrss, sounds fantastic.

Yea man, I've seen these 5th Avenue's in mirror finish Black. Jeez, drop dead gorgeous. Ya just feel good driving them, peering out at the crystal Chrysler Pentagon hood ornament. Very similar to your memories, I first layed eyes on my friends 85 or 6 5th Avenue. It was triple gold like this one, plush Kimberly cloth (the other was the ha ha ha Fine Corinthian leather, which meant nothing lol!!), and holy crap, it was the sweetest thing ive ever seen i swear. I was 19 at the Time. I promised myself I was going to own one, one day. Here she is. Thanks for sharing!! Love the stories that go with the cars.

Clean, glossy gold has always worked so well on classics! Same with metallic silver.
@styldsteel12 ай бұрын
So so true. And back in those days, say, the 1980s and earlier, I didn't mind silver so much. Because the design engineers knew how to mix colors. Look, silver is not a color by any stretch. But the cars had door mouldings and pinstripe to match the interiors. You'd have for example a silver car with a red or blue interior, matching pinstripe, and outside mouldings. So attractive. Now? Eternally boring. Silver with black interiors. No imagination whatsoever. Thanks for watching! Did you see my White 5th avenue? The interior is the richest, deepest cobalt blue velour.
@DutchFunkenstein2 ай бұрын
@styldsteel1 I get what you're saying, today 'silver' (or graphite, grey etc) makes the car looks like the manufacturer forgot to add a coating to the primer. Boring and tedious, unlike the vibrant coloring back then. Besides that will chrome (pinstripe) top off the class itself, just what you were referring to. Chrome grille as well. I'll definitely look into the Fifth Avenue on your channel, you've got quite a collection and from what I can tell (and most of all SEE) they're in good hands! Keep up the preservation work! 👍 Don't let EVs kill the classics
@styldsteel12 ай бұрын
@@DutchFunkenstein your a good man. I really appreciate that. And I do try like heck to preserve each and every one of them. I think I'm succeeding. I believe EVs won't be successful. FoMoCo has a shit ton of F150 Lightenings they can't unload. I feel hybrids might take this cake. The classics are in my blood. My dailys are a 15, and a 17 MKZ. In my garage rests a 1949 Hudson Commodore, and a 1975 Checker Marathon. That's where my soul lays.

@@styldsteel1 Thanks, but I'm only selective good haha. I always give credit where credit is due, and credit is definitely due here! Thanks for your kind words man, hard to find these days. I noticed that as well. The only reason Tesla for example is succesful is only because of the innovation it brings (such as autonomous driving), not just the EV part. Always loved Checker cabs by the way!! Never knew they made civilian cars as well, that's awesome to know!

@@DutchFunkenstein you're welcome! And thank you again! CMD (checker motor division ) had been making cars since 1922, but the one we all know and love are the A 12s. The A 12s started in like 1958, and kept that body for 30 years. They didn't have the money to retool. But, yea, Checker motors were pretty hip to their game!!!! They built wagons, Ambulances, and something called the Aero-Bus. But yea, the civilian checker was the A -11. Wanna laugh! It was available in 92 (ninety two) colors. Lolol!! These are good cars to drive. Just bought my 6th one a month ago and have some plans for her. It's an 88, so it doesn't have that soft carpet like yours does, one of my favorite features in the Fifth Avenue.

First congratulations on your purchase. What I love is Chrysler employed the best materials available at the time. I have a second 5th Avenue which I'll post here soon, but when I was looking for these cars, which weren't very easy, they had north of 200,000 miles, and I really got very discouraged. But yes, like you I'm very proud to own them and preserve history. I know they get a bad rap with the electronic ignitions and all, but so far, on both, they've been flawless. Edited to say, my 87 Gran Fury also has the same set up as well. Knock on wood, It runs like a champ.
@dalemccartney4 жыл бұрын
@@styldsteel1 I was fortunate enough to have no issues with the ignition, other than on my 82, a rebuilt computer fixed the problem. My first was an 88 and I also had an 86 and 87 together for a time. This car, I'm considering doing some upgrades to the ignition and am currently researching whether I can do most or all using the stock distributor while keeping the lean burn.If I can get a little more pep out of it without going in too deep I'll be very happy.

@@dalemccartney Oh for sure. If it's an easy upgrade and you can pull it off in say, an afternoon while keeping the stock distributor, plus a little extra pep in it's step? then sure. Oh I definitely agree. With the incredibly long life of the M body chryslers. (77-89) it's clear that most people would agree. Bullet proof 318 mated to the 3 speed torque flight. Very nice, very reliable drive train. Mist people hate the chrysler lean burn. I don't know, my other two m body's are on my KZbin page, both with lean burns, have been trouble free. Anyway, to your point, after the m bodies it became clear that people preferred the more fuel efficient, just as roomy K car. I say .. bah! Thanks for watching!
