My mom bought a brand new 1987 maroon Taurus Wagon. The transmission failed and was replaced twice under warranty plus the car was riddled with tons of other electrical Gremlins. My mom traded it in less than 2 years after first buying it and it has been the last American car she has ever owned. I was eight when she bought it and although I wasn't thrilled did she was buying a station wagon especially when I sought the regular sedan with much cooler I do remember people stopping us to ask her questions about it like every time we got gas or went to the mall. The last straw was when the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working while driving down I-95 during a downpour. The digital dashboard wood shut off intermittently and every time the dealership try to track the problem down they could never get the dashboard panels to align properly again causing it to squeak and rattle like the lid of a styrofoam cooler.

My mother was police officer and when she brought one of these home in 87’ I thought it was the coolest thing ever. She also ended up buying 2 between 95 and 02. The last one lasted up until last year. Inherited by my niece and wrecked. Given away and still running.

Great video! My earliest recollection of a family car was my mom's 1989 Taurus station wagon. It was such a great vehicle. I remember being obsessed with the folding back seat area as a kid. My dad had a 1995 Taurus for many years, white with the blue interior lol. I'm currently driving a black 2000 Taurus (now on its second engine). While the body is starting to rust to death, it's still my "old reliable". It's sad the Taurus is going away... too bad they couldn't make a new model that could pull in buyers like the 80s Taurus did. Love your Robocop version and attention to detail!

LOL, this might be the best use for an old Taurus I've ever seen. Side note, my grandfather bought one of the earliest Taurus wagons produced (don't remember if they hit the market in mid or late 1985), and it almost ran forever. He drove it for over 10 years and put close to 300k miles on it before an ignition switch short caused it to catch on fire and burn up.

You're wrong. This is 100% a GL. This car has an LX bumper with cornering lights and GL door moldings. LX models had different interiors and bodyside cladding from the factory. Also once again you're wrong the cornering lights on the LX trim went all the way through to 1990.

The paint is the easy part, the thing that makes this car special is the impossible to find computer, the light bar and controller, switches, relays, sound system, etc. The computer goes for about $1000 if you can find it, the Horntones is $500, the center console was $250, the push bumper was $500, then you have to spend the time to install and wire all this stuff, fuses, cables, connections, etc. Not to mention the hardest part is finding a 1986 Ford Taurus LX. The bumpers are always broken and brittle, missing parts that can't be replaced. It was harder than it looks.

It's wired looking at it knowing it's from the 80's but it doesn't look like a 80's car I know when I first saw one when I was 4 because I was 3 when it came out it was so crazy seeing a car that looked like that so I relate to how you felt. We had a old station wagon from the 70's I wasn't use to newer cars and everyone we knew had old cars so to see that it was like wow that's the future on wheels so this car isn't to be taken for granted youngins.

I've seen 3 with transmissions going at 102k miles. Now before the GM Mopar crowd get all high and mighty. Their brands weren't designed for anything past 75k . Yes you can stretch anything with good maintenance and easy driving most times. I've had an 89 wagon airborn before, foot e-brake swung it around a boulevard. 3 wheeled a 90 sedan like it was a Golf once. Needless to say they needed tie rods a couple of times, brake pads, averaged one alternator per Taurus. Solid cars, solid motor. The early ones rusted bad, they fixed that around 92 with galvanized bodies. Never had to do an exhaust on one. Had 7 in the family. The other manufacturer's cars could not take that kind of punishment and still run.
