My parents had 2 of these growing up. Not wagons. But yes, VB is correct, when new, the styling on these was phenominal. Very space ship-esque. Love the color VB. Thats a score in my book.

My sister has always liked station wagons, especially the Ford Taurus. I remember her always having one. The last one she bought new was a 1995. It was the basic model much like yours with everything you needed--and not much more. It is currently wasting away in her backyard. This was a nice flashback.

Bob - I know that feeling upon seeing a Ford Taurus for the first time in 1986. It pulled in to the high school parking lot, and I was like, “what the h…l is this?”. It looked like something off the set of Battlestar Galactica. They became ubiquitous over the next couple of decades. The Taurus was definitely a game changer.

I have a 1995 Ford Taurus GL wagon as my daily driver. It has 66,000 original miles on it and the only thing I had to do was replace an AC line and reseal the engine and replace the water pump and of course a few front motor mounts which seem to be a weak link in the engine mounting system and it's been an awesome daily driver that I don't worry about getting door dings or ever getting left stranded as the darn thing is so reliable for local and 1000 mile trips. Nice content! ✌️🇺🇸

My aunt had a ‘92 LX sedan in that same exact purple. The only thing is that it came with gray body cladding and it also had leather interior. My grandmother also had a ‘94 GL sedan in electric red with gray cloth interior. The only additional option I think hers had was the chirping keyless entry. A pretty cool feature in the 90’s. I’ve never seen a wagon in that color though. Fascinating!!

I might just have to do a video of my Taurus. I bought my light blue 1993 Taurus GL with 3.8L back in fall of 2007 with about 60k on it. Currently has about 105k on it. Primary car from 2007 to 2012. Been garaged the whole time. Swapped out the instrument panel with one from a Sable and now has a working tach. Minor rust, but better shape than this one. Has different rims. I live in the Duluth, MN area, and see maybe 4 others from this era around. About 3-4 years ago, it developed a major leak. Turned out to be the transmission. Did cost over $2k to rebuild it, as it was going to need it anyways. Works fine since then. My other car is an EV, and its hard to drive this one much as it costs 15 to 20 times as much for fuel costs.

They probably suffered from BAD transmissions that were denied free factory replacements . Happened to the 1995 Ford Windstars

I have to say that as I gotten older, it's no wonder that a lot of tv and low budget scifi movies back in the 1990s used the Ford Taurus as a placement for futuristic cars. I mean, they had that scifi feel to them. Like you said, it's no wonder it was used in Robocop as well due to it looking like something out of the future or outer space. I will say that I thought that the back of the Ford Taurus Station Wagon was scary looking when I was a kid. Still, I admire the vehicle.

As someone who wants to find, save, and restore a 1986 Ford Taurus LX wagon. It's so frustrating. When I look up 1986-1991 Taurus and Sables all I find are the 89-91 SHOs. I had the chance to get a pristine white 86 LX wagon with the rare instaclear windshield option 3 years ago but my dad is a fool and got in the way.

This is what we should be doing when talking about saving the planet. Forget buying your brand new electric car. Buy a decent, used car, and just drive it until it dies. Now that Bob owns that Taurus, it will probably run for another 10 years. Give it the basic maintenance it needs, and just enjoy it. Much greener than scrapping it and buying a brand new car.

94s had body colored door handles and the newer rounded steering wheel so I'm guessing this one is an early one. I was just thinking the other day that you never see them anymore. We had a 94 sedan with the 3.8. When it rusted out we replaced it with a 2005 which was one of the best cars we ever had. It was nice seeing this video about them :) Our 94 had the center console instead of the column shifter.

Bob, great radio voice. No uhhs, no duhs, just say what you're thinking in a clear, concise way. Nice nostalgic trip, you painted, too! I bought a '92, a '93, and a '95. They weren't wagons, but, I actually liked the way the wagon looked over the sedan. I loved how the dash wrapped around and the redundant radio controls you pointed out in your video. I still consider the wagon the best looking wagon ever mass produced. Since I was about 21, I couldn't see myself riding the ladies in a wagon, lol. But it looked so sleek with it's clean lines, back in the day. I liked the Taurus lineup thru the years, so much, I also bought a 2004, 2012, '14, '16, and a 2018, which I drive today, and it's a keeper. I wished I had the foresight to hang unto one of those 90s model, cause they were little trouble and never any trans issues. Anyway, I'm ramblin, thanx for posting!

Greetings from England. American cars are not generally released onto the European market unfortunately. But I familiarized myself with American cars by seeing them on American tv shows and movies. It was not uncommon to see a Ford Taurus on an episode of The X Files back in the day. That 2nd generation Ford Taurus is definitely the nicest looking. I don't care what the naysayers say about Ford, they have made a lot of nice cars. I know they do generally have more rust issues than other brands of cars, but they make up for it in other areas. Ford has been in business since 1903, they must be doing something right. It is a shame station wagons are not as popular as they once were. They have more than enough storage space than most people need. Sometimes they have more storage space than some SUVs. I have a 2000 Ford Focus Station wagon with 168'000 miles on it. I've owned it since 2015. The car has had some repairs, but nothing major. I'm proud of it. If I lived in America or Canada, I'd likely buy a Ford Taurus Station Wagon.

Those are safe cars too. 1992-1995 & the new 1996 models were the only big midsized cars that could pass the new 1997 federal side impact crash test and frontal offset crash test. The frontal offset crash test was the toughest to pass and the 1992 Taurus/Sable were the only ones in the early 90s that could pass it with a GOOD rating.

If you want to keep that factory tape deck but make full use of your phone, check out wireless bluetooth tape adapters. It's a cassette that you put in, that gives you full Bluetooth like a modern car without tearing up the dash. You do have to remove it about once a month to recharge it. They're like $25 and absolutely wonderful in these scenarios. I use an aluratek in my classic cars.

We owned a 93, purchased in Washington in 1994 with low mileage. It was this color, which really sparkled in the sun. The color was definitely rare, and in our years of ownership I only saw one or two sedans and never another wagon that matched. Our first scratches came from a friend's Bassett hound pawing at the door, after that it was a real work horse and we gave up waxing it. The steering column mounted shift lever meant room for three in the front row, three in the middle, and two rear facing in the back. We frequently opened the glass hatch only, and to this day I wish My other vehicles could do that. Turn the key one way, the hatch.. the other, and oops just the window opens. Seat belts for a total of 8, but the front middle seat was impossibly small. Cruising an hour southbound on I-5 with 7 kids on our way to the Tacoma Chuck-E-Cheese for my birthday party. The two in the rear facing trunk seats making faces at passing cars while I pumped the music of Tetris from my Gameboy to the radio with a cassette adapter. This is how I know my mom had great love and patience for me when I was a child 😅. Thanks for this post!

I leased a Taurus GL in 1994 while living in Minneapolis. In the Summer of 1995 we experienced several days of record high temperatures near 100degrees. Believe or not this car actually experienced "vapor lock" during the "heat soak" when the engine was shut off, resulting in a no start condition until the temperature dropped! While listening to a "car talk" program on one of the local AM station, that the Taurus was the ONLY fuel injected car on the planet that would vapor lock. The reason was that some obtuse engineer at Ford decided it was a GOOD idea to run the "fuel rail" next to the coolant lines! I guess that was another "better idea" from Ford! LOL The Taurus was nothing special as far as engineering goes, just "old wine in a NEW bottle". So glad when the lease was up and turned this TURD in!

Due to the face you don’t see that many of these anymore and it’s that rare color. I would not beat on it. It may not go up in crazy value but there is something there. I would get a more beat version and do the wood grain. I had a tan 93 sedan. Dad has a white 89 wagon with the tints. Real cool. There is a green sedan I see sitting in New England winters in a parking lot at a masons lodge. Wish it was in a garage. Also see an old dude driving around town in a red two door fairmont all The time. Don’t know how that thing is running. Looks in decent shape sort of....

I think that purple is the same colour as the one from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I made a 1/64 model of that car complete with the christmas tree tied to the roof as a tree decoration last Christmas so I spent some time looking at that car.. kind of hard to determine the colour because it was all filthy with winter dirt.

Personally, I would definitely Griswold the sides. Being worn, it's a way to keep it semi desirable and fun.. I grew up with these as well, friend in college had a wine red with red 88 wagon, it was really nice.. I also have the same love affair with gm... big fan of the fwd A-body as well as the roadmaster b-bodys. Grew up in Astro/Safari vans... always been a fan of regular Radwood Era cars
