Oh and dual, if you are at all concerned about the transmission prematurely engaging like that one did for the first drain, don't be. Our 1990 Whirlpool did that same thing once a long time ago with a small load, but has not happened since. You will find some other videos of the same thing happening with other direct drives.

Sharkie626 our 90's series kenmore does that on the first spin ALL THE TIME, but it is epic, I'm hoping to get some videos of our machine soon :D

What I like about the older DD washers is the roaring noises the pump makes during the spin cycle. todays DD pump sounds are not as fun but I don't know how to describe properly why, all I can say is they sound different.
@dualactionsurgilator13 жыл бұрын
@Ilovewashers Yeah they do that. It is most common in machines that have a lot of hours on them. I've been told the wear on the transmission causes it.

Awesome. I cannot wait to see a complete wash cycle in your restored machine. I bought a very similar version of this machine in 1996. Unfortunately, I had 3 service calls in 5 months. The last one the timer board had failed. Six weeks later, still on backorder. Shipped them back to Sears without hesitation. Shame, I did like the way they performed.

@dualactionsurgilator Excellent plan! Nice to have all the "good" washers restored.

So is this washer still working 10 years later? I am very curious if the electronic controls have held up? Why is the water so yellow? Is that well water?
@Sharkie62613 жыл бұрын
Was this the Super Wash cycle? It seemed like the tub was half-full and then the water started coming in again.
@Dog-Lover362 жыл бұрын
No, that background guy switched Water Level to Extra High. One model like this contained Fine Wash, meaning Hand Wash.

I'd have to agree. The vintage belt drives sounded much better than the thunka-thunka direct drives

@JSneaker I plan to rebuild the transmission as it has never been touched in the machines 25 yr history. This will fix the spin brake noise. The well the machine is connected to had recently been fixed the water is clear now.

on very rare occasions, my DD Kenmore would automatically go into a spin drain cycle.
@dualactionsurgilator13 жыл бұрын
@Sharkie626 No only the Whirlpool branded models had the super wash, this is a Kenmore. What this was is I retained the water from a low level test run and then started the Cotton Sturdy cycle. It is however possible to do a pre-wash option which provides an 8 minute high agitation wash followed by drain and spin before the regular cycle. Thanks for watching.

They have the look of the last belt drive kenmore washers. 1986 was when they started the direct drive line.
@Ilovewashers13 жыл бұрын
@dualactionsurgilator I also had a kenmore washer that was built when Roper, Kenmore, Whirlpool, and estate were making appliances with the red Grey and white colored designs of the lines that represented the cycles on the dials that would always go into spin drain after wash cycle but not the rinse cycle, sometimes it wouldn't kick into spin drain right away like this one did, sometimes it postponed until the washer was half-empty.

Cool cool machine - thanks for posting. One day maybe....

@Ilovewashers I've noticed this too. The older DD machines have a better drain sound. I have not been able to pinpoint why though.
@dualactionsurgilator13 жыл бұрын
@Sharkie626 Thanks. I ran another load in the machine and it did this again. I also hear a slight whine from the transmission. I was planning on rebuilding it anyway as it leaks a bit of grease.

@Ilovewashers You should check out my 2010 Whirlpool washer vid (maybe you already have) and check out the neutral drain and spin cycle. It still makes those awesome classic DD noises. You can find the cycle change time slots in the video description.

I have this same machine except mine is the 1987 model. Model number ends in 820. The only difference I know of is that spray rinses went from 5 to only 1 right as spin started.

@Sharkie626 I'm not sure it is going bad but as this is a rare and wonderful machine (built by Whirlpool before the end of the belt drive LTD edition run) I want to preserve it as best I can. I will do a rebuild on the tranny and have a good friend of mine who is a former GM body shop man restore the cabinet. My collection plan is to find the top end Whirlpool/Kenmore machines ever made of any age and bring them to their original glory.

@TheRealSergentSiler The dogs are chattering a bit when the top of the agitator spins free. I'v seen other KM DD washers do this as well. Not sure why though the dogs are in great shape.

excellent agitation :-) 5***** :-)

@TheRealSergentSiler Yeah the tripod was sticking. I had the tilt and swivel loose but it still jammed up. The agitator dogs were not slipping but intermittently catching while the auger was free spinning.

Is this one of the first direct drive washers that came out in 1986?
@antoniocarter71116 жыл бұрын
Yes it is..

I have the same washer as you, (came with my rental house.) The display goes dim sometimes and it won't finish agitating when it goes dim, sometimes in the middle of a cycle or sometimes it won't start at all. The digital panel will just go dim and I either have to wait for the lights to illuminate fully or give up. Have you any idea what the problem could be? I have a feeling replacing the washer all together may be a better idea than getting it checked out...but I love the washer. =(

@rieon-plumbingfan6 жыл бұрын
dualactionsurgilator does this washer usually spin drain like that? Our 90's series kenmore (which we got back after 2 crappy HE wahsers) has a habit of spin draining on the first spin, when it is done draining, it will stop spinning, then spin again properly
