I had an 86, bought it used in 87 when I was 20. Between car payment & insurance the car was costing me $850 a month ( a lot back then! ) I used to hate when she’d say “ fuel level is low “ & I’d answer back “ owner is broke “🤣

My mom had one in 86 and she told me a story of a time where her and her friend were out driving real late at night on some backroads and it was saying that. Her and her friend had started calling it "the Cunt"

You can pull those cute bells out of certain Kias and Hyundais for sure. I grabbed one of them out of a hyundai at a junkyard. I do remember the mid 00's into the 2010's Accent GL Hatchbacks had them.

That dash looks so dope and retro futuristic because it uses Vacuum Fluorescent displays, a technology we should've appreciated more while it was more widely used. VFDs look so much better than modern LCDs yet most people gave up the their superior contrast and delicate glow for boring full color LCDs since :(

I had an 84 datsun 300. I had owned it for quite some time. One night as I was driving down a back road, by myself, I hear a woman’s voice (fuel level low I think..) from inside the car. I was instantly startled as I had never heard my vehicle speak before. “Who’s there?!?” Hahaha. It was a good car. Lots of electrical gremlins but a good car.

If modern cars operated like this, I'm sure there would be a lot less road accidents. There's so much audio and visual notifications, blinking lights, that the driver's attention is constantly being stimulated. It feels similar to pilots flying an airplane, where you constantly have to check your surroundings and ensure the plane / vehicle is performing normally.
