That dash looks so dope and retro futuristic because it uses Vacuum Fluorescent displays, a technology we should've appreciated more while it was more widely used. VFDs look so much better than modern LCDs yet most people gave up the their superior contrast and delicate glow for boring full color LCDs since :(

if you compare to LCD, is far more superior, and now we have OLED. but yes in that years, VFD is very cool. but the disadvantage is great too, it need much higher power than Analog gauge or "calculator display" / monochrome segmented LCD even with backlight, bulkier and only can display few color, and it will reduce the lifespan if you dim the VFD in the night. so yes, it super cool in that day

One of Kansas's biggest farmers I worked for growing up (around 2000) was a former lawyer and had a barn the size of a super walmart filled to the brim with artifacts, cars and his old case files. Plenty of exotics, old model A's and Model T's and 1 very special 1986 Nissan 300ZX Turbo in sky blue with less than 10k miles on it just like this one. Even in 2000 it was a pretty unreal car to see on the interior.

I used to drive our family 1986 Nissan/Datsun (the car had both emblems!) Maxima station wagon as a teen, and I was so proud that my car talks while my friends’ newer cars didn’t. Hop in the car, put the key in ignition, have it tell you, “The key is in ignition,” - and we were off! God, I loved that car to bits (with all the rust, it was kinda falling to bits around the edges😂) When I was little, we took that car (purchased as used car) on a family cross-continental road trip from Ohio to LA and back. It never complained once during the whole trip, and never complained while we had it. One cold winter’s day, the car wouldn’t start, and my dad decided to finally part ways with the vehicle because the very simple repair was far above the car’s base value at that point. I still regret we made that decision. I miss my Maxim.

When I was a little kid in the 80s, I remember my uncle had a Chrysler that said, "Your door is ajar" and he'd always reply, "This stupid car thinks a door is a jar, but a door is a door dumb-dumb" just to make me laugh. He did it at least 1000 times.

Awesome! Having this in 86 must have made you feel like your driving a car from the future. I would love to see a video of driving at night. Could they only do the green colour? At the time could they have made it all blue? Or grey?

This car quite clearly demonstrates everything i love about 80's cars. Even my truck designed in the 80's has some of these touches despite its utilitarian nature

Oh I love those two fox body Mustangs just visible as you drive forward! I've owned around 10, currently have an 89 LX 5.0 convertible and a 87 GT 5.0 convertible, great cars!

My uncle had one of these. Way ahead of their time. You could even change the suspension on the fly.

My friend's parents growing up always each had a 300zx. Father 5spd 2 seater with digital dash. Mother had standard dash and auto w\ 2+2. Both 1987 models. I drove the one with all digital dash and talked while on acid. It was the hardest thing I had to do, lol.
