Hello Tmr, I used cooling lubricant to prevent a tank from rusting again after derusting. It worked perfectly. Hope that is the correct term, cooling lubricant, I mean the emulsion that is used for for machining in general. It neutralises like water whatever acid one used to derust and simultaneously seals the surface like oil would. After that you can flush with gasoline if you want but just letting it dry out had no negative effect like eg significant residue. After bad experience with tank sealer I just use premium gasoline with additives since this procedure and the tank is clean for 2 seasons now. I used household citric acid around 1000 gram per 20 liters of water for approximately 3 days to derust. This can be repeated with heavy rust. Immediately after draining poured around 2 liters of ready mixed lubricant inside, plugged the inlet hole and waved the tank so it gets everywhere. Then draining. This can also be repeated until the emulsion comes out clean. Letting it dry and done. Was the only way that really worked and was cheaper than any proprietary product. All the best

Thanks , good to know !!! I normally use WD40 after de rusting a tank, but in this case, since I knew it would be getting treated again later, I just didn’t bother. Thai was my first Try with cleaning vinegar and I was not impressed. I’ll go back to the other products I’ve used in the past instead. Live and learn I guess . Thanks for commenting, I’ll look for the citric acid too

Every penny is worth restoration on that bike. Probably not so much damage to the lower part. Head and pistons are very easy to work with. I would looking forward to it if I was you

@true-moto-resto and if not going fully restore buy some 17" -88 or newer rims and some upside-down forks, not necessarily radial calipers cause they maybe be a little to modern. Much better handling and no "tire problem"

Sprocket cover you bought is for 1100 i think its got a clutch slave cylinder while your 750 has a cable clutch , it will still fit though you can use it .

Yea you are correct about the clutch slave and cable. The bike is an 86 which came with a hydraulic clutch on the 750. The engine is from an 88 slingshot which had a cable clutch . Unfortunately the 88 sprocket cove will not fit the 86. I did buy an 8& cover but it won’t fit . So I bought another 86 cover

The liquid coming out from under the headers would be the overflow from the spark plug recesses - designed to allow any rain water that goes down there to escape - so anything you put down the cylinders will come out through that when the pistons move up. Though 8 months later, im assuming you're way beyond this being if any use now 😂

Cheers, I used extra strength cleaning vinegar. IDK, it didn't do much and it was soaking for 4 days

The tank received wasn’t from Globalmotoparts in Germany was it? I have purchased a few bodywork panels for my ‘91 CBR1000F I am restoring… and they always come with the entire worlds supply of brown packing paper! 😂

LOL, no it came out of the USA. But at least it was packed well. Once I got a side fairing for a CBR600 sent from the UK in a plastic bag !

Love your videos, but you need a mic or a better one. It's hard to hear the knowledge coming out of you.

Thanks for the input, I use my IPhone but I hear what you are sayin’. I’ll have to look into that. I just recorded a couple of GoPro videos, but it’s a Hero3 and no Mic so, I’m not thrilled with that. In the mean time I’ll be more conscious of where the iPhone is when I’m talking.
