TheAlexManVideos : Alex, in the video part 3 when you removed the timing chain cover, you removed the metal wedge and how. Then, when you put it back it seems to me that you forgot to put a piece of the oil pump, what was that part and how it is put, does it go inside the oil pump or does it get on the outside? I've been making them for a while. I'm not pumping them out as often as I used to, but I'm not gone.

Hey there! Nice video! I recently bought a 92 pickup with a 22re and it’s a manual. I’m currently trying to take off the crank pulley but can’t. I’ve tried putting the truck in first gear and then loosening the bolt with a wrench with a long pipe for leverage and it just spins the driveshaft. The trucks E-brake is on and it’s in first. This was all being done while the cylinder head and everything is off. I haven’t tried an impact yet but do you have any advice? Thanks

Put it in fifth gear and 4X4 high range. Pull the e-brake as hard as you can. Chock all four wheels. Get a longer breaker bar. A good impact wrench is a good idea if you have access.

How do you keep track of everything as you're pulling bolts and pulling wires?
@TheAlexManVideos5 жыл бұрын
Well, I've worked on Toyotas for a while so now I can pretty much do it from memory, but when starting out on a new vehicle, it helps to simply put nuts and bolts back where they came from, just thread them in a few turns. For wires, you'll find that most of the time the plugs are like puzzle pieces and will only go in one place, but to save you the trouble of trying every plug in every connector, some masking tape and a Sharpie makes things real simple. For hoses, it's pretty much the same thing. Some of the special molded hoses are pretty obvious, but on cars with a lot of vacuum hoses it can get complicated. You can usually refer to the emissions label under the hood, and taking pictures before you start is a good idea too.

Hey Alex, in the middle. Basically am up to where you left off in Part 3. Im now beginning to clean the gasket surfaces. What did you use to clean the gasket off of the engine block?
@TheAlexManVideos6 жыл бұрын
Razor blades and brake parts cleaner. Use compressed air and a shop vac to get the little bits out of the water jackets when you're done.

How did u manage to break loose the bolt on the crank pulley? I'm using leverage aswell but mine turns, I put the ttansimmison in 5th gear, applied the breaks, and still turns a little bit when trying to break it loose. What I'm doing wrong??
@TheAlexManVideos5 жыл бұрын
You need a longer lever or an impact wrench. Instead of using the parking brake, have someone get in the driver's seat and press the brake pedal. The service brakes are stronger than the parking brake. Also, get a longer lever. a 4 foot pipe has never let me down.

Nice work Alex, love the vids. Is part four coming soon? I happen to be doing the same job on an 89 pickup and was wondering if I can install the timing chain and cover before I drop the head gasket and head back on? will the chain guides and sprocket be in my way?
@TheAlexManVideos6 жыл бұрын
Part 4 will be out... someday. Got a lot going on. I would recommend you do exactly that. That's the proper way to assemble it. This ensures you'll have a good seal of the head gasket to the timing cover and no leak right where the block, timing cover, and head gasket meet. There is room to get the head back on with the timing set installed.

thanks for part 3! i didnt notice the video was ending when you were snapping your fingers haha. are you interested in diesel swaps at all? 22res great but theres cool om617 swaps out there
@TheAlexManVideos6 жыл бұрын
A diesel would be cool, I guess, but I have no desire to hack up a perfectly good truck. I would never buy a truck with a swapped motor, so why would I build one?

Lucky your crank bolt came off. Mine is being a bear! Had to order a pulley holder and going to try again with a 6' breaker bar. 1/2" impact did nothing.......

Sold her in May of 2012. I actually saw her on Craigslist about a year later. I emailed the guy but he never got back to me. I checked the CarFax on the VIN a while back and there is nothing on it since 2013 so I'm pretty sure she's gone. I did just buy another 1988 Toyota Pickup which is nearly identical. It's a different color and this one has intermittent wipers. Other than that it's the same truck.
