Really hoping that part 3 comes out before i get caught up! i'm in Colorado, my timing chain broke. either going to get a new head or send it to be re-manufactured. almost have the head off (took me 3 semi-lazy days), your videos have been my go to. Thanks!

I looked at some of your older content, your so lucky you haven't changed a bit. I like the way you do things with engine's, you do it right the first time, but more your workmanship is a credit to you. Even the seats in your ford appear well done, looking forward to the final product on those seats. Hope you had a great Xmas and New year, both you and your misses.

Thanks for the kind words. I finished up the Ranger seat and console conversion but never filmed it. That truck was sold a while ago so there's no planned video to show how it turned out. It did end up really nice. I had a nice center console and armrest out of an Explorer and a nice pair of bucket seats. The driver's seat used the modified cut down Ranger frame and the foam and upholstery from an Explorer passenger seat which had nearly no wear.

The videos I did on this job I was definitely in a time crunch so I didn't pull the head but I never had any problems with it. I did end up blowing the head gasket many miles later though. These 22RE are some of the most bulletproof engines (albeit slow) around after you fix the timing guides.

Timing chain set and head gasket replacement is a big job for sure. If the harmonic balancer was in good shape, you can just buy the Toyota front seal that is not as thick as the original front seal. Drive the new one all the way home, and it will be leak free because the seal is riding on a new surface. Toyota 90311-45014 Type-T Timing Cover Oil Seal

Good tip. I've heard of this but haven't tried it myself. I used an OEM seal but I don't know what part number. I also installed a new harmonic balancer so I should be good.

Glad you're back. Can't wait to see more videos. I've seen some ratchet organizers on eBay for around $15 if that helps.

20:50, that is for steering turned all the way to lock, to help engine from stalling. Make sure doesn't leak! Will pull power steering fluid Into Intake! Had one on my 92 SC400 Lexus. Just bypassed it, expensive and not needed.

Hurry up and post more on this... I have a 1990 24re that I have to replace the timing chain on this weekend.. :)After reviewing videos, I am not going to remove the head, I am going with the plan of removing the front 2 oil pan bolts and loosening the others so that there is some give for when I reinstall the timing cover... Mechanic buddy of mine suggested it.. Any thoughts??

I’m looking to replace a broken chain on my 22r, everyone has warned me about bent valves. Could be why people take the head off and get it checked. Although it is nice alternative way of going about it if the valves end up being okay!

I'm not pulling the head man.. I'll pull off the oil pan but this is by far the most complicated mechanic job I'll be tackling is the timing chain

That’s a 4ft long what kind of light you put under your hood while you’re working? I am going to check out homedepot to see if they have one of them. I need one asap. I have to replacement my timing chain
@TheAlexManVideos5 жыл бұрын
It's just a 4 foot long fluorescent light that would normally hang from chains from the ceiling of your garage, basement, or shop. They can plug into wall sockets or be hard wired in depending on your needs. If you want to use it like I'm using it, get one with a plug so you can connect it right up to an extension cord. Works great. I highly recommend it.

Did my timing chain over the weekend.. not a big deal.. Just some frustrations... cost me $100 versus $1000 at a shop
@TheAlexManVideos6 жыл бұрын
Glad you got it figured out. I wouldn't recommend replacing the timing chain without pulling the head, but I know some have done it that way successfully. Glad it worked out for you.

Yep, 22RE is a 2.4 liter engine. Common mix up that the engine number equates to the engine size.
