Alex, I have 1988 sr5 and am planning on doing the timing chain, you mentioned the first time chain you put in had failed you, which brand should I absolutely stay away from?

The one I am replacing didn't fail, it wore out. I did buy a Beck Arnley kit to replace it because the product pictures showed OSK and Made in Japan, but when I received it that was not the case. I ended up buying an OSK kit from 22RE Performance.

Hey man, looking forward to the final video where you button everything back up. Question: I'm replacing the oil pump on my 22RE only so the timing cover is staying on the engine. What type of grease did you use in the o-ring channel to help it stick? I think it will help more for me if I do this because I will be installing this oil pump horizontally and I don't want the o-ring to move.

I used silicone grease but it doesn't really matter too much. Fill the groove with grease first, then push the O-ring in.

Alex i need your help I was given a Toyota 22re the issue im having is the truck has been sitting for like 2 years. The fuel is bad so I will be draining the tank and getting it cleaned also i will be replacing the fuel pump and filters. The main issue is that when I tried to start the engine it would crank but not start i have fire at the plugs well i did replace the plugs wires ignition coil cap and rotor. I used a gas can and a good fuel pump to get fuel to the engine still no start. I turned the engine several times to get number 1 up and even checked by taking the valve cover off to make sure my timing marks were all at 11:59. Still no start. I need your help figuring this out if you have time. Currently the valve cover is off along with the intake so that i was able to check the fuel rail.

I got a New timing chain cover. Made sense. Good old Vaseline works to prime oil pump. Question: why take off Head to do timing chain?
@dropit005 жыл бұрын
consensus seems to be if you don't take off the head to do it properly it's not a matter of IF it's going to leak it's WHEN it's GOING TO LEAK
@dropit005 жыл бұрын
you did the same thing I did. forgot to include the alternator bracket on the top right 14mm head fastener when the timing cover went back on

Done 2 rebuilds on a 22re after about a year of driving them pressurized coolant out of the radiator cap. Radiator was replaced with a new cap as well. Still did it. Sold the truck got tired of digging into it. Lawd I miss that truck

Sounds like combustion gasses leaking into the cooling system. There's a few causes of that. Cheap head gaskets fail easily, improper torquing (dirty threads can cause this), head and deck surfaces not flat, new timing cover or block milled without timing cover installed causing head to not properly clamp to the block, cracks in the head or block, coolant passages can erode at the gasket surface (usually caused by coolant not being changed often enough), and quite a few other things like overheating and such.

I read forums and it recommended a oversized gasket after numerous fails with the oem gasket, Did you have your timing cover milled? I did a 20r hybrid on a 83 4x4 and had it milled at the shop. And went with a oversized gasket.... needless to say I don’t know how that worked. Got rid of the truck because of rust issues. I do want another truck, but this time I will do a complete rebuild or a drop on from LCE

@@backwatermcfly7930 I'll only ever recommend OEM head gaskets. Doesn't matter what brand you get though if there are underlying problems like I mentioned. I didn't mill my block or timing cover. They are factory fit with each other.

Hi dear Im facing some problem with my FJ62 - 1987 model lancruiser. When using the 4x4 gear (high and low gear) the vehicle is getting jam when I turn right or left, but on moving to front or reverse its moving normally, I recently serviced to both differential and changed all the seals and bearings, and axle, I tried to lift the vehicles four tyres on a jack, and run it with the 4x4 high and low gear with turning the string right and left and it doesn’t got jammed, but on getting the vehicle on the ground the same thing happened on turning the steering the tyres getting jammed. Even I checked the break system and no any issue found in it. Do any one faced same problem as this, or any idea what the issue could be. Also I opening really diff I find it broken also change with same old one

I'll do my best to understand your problem. First, is the drivetrain getting "jammed" on pavement? You should NEVER engage 4x4 on pavement. The increased traction can cause binding and breakage. The problem is when you are going straight, the front and rear wheels all travel about the same distance. But when you go around a turn, the front wheels travel a longer distance than the rear. Problem is with 4x4 engaged there is no way that the front and rear can travel different distances which induces a bind. The other thing I would check is that someone didn't install different ring and pinion gear ratios front to rear. This is less likely though, since you say the vehicle doesn't bind when going straight, only when turning. If the ratios didn't match you would always get a bind in 4x4.

I think that oil seal is supposed to go in all the way. Wheelie Pete has a video, its thinner so that it will ride in a different location on crank, so that it wont be riding in a groove and leak prematurely...I think

Alex did you go to WVU Morgantown campus or the tech school?

The reason why I asked is because I watched your older videos from 6 years ago and you had a video of what looked like a Briggs intek and I don't live too far away from the main campus.

Hey everyone. The reason that Toyota went to seal # 90311-45014 is the re-location (installed location) of where the seal "lives" on the harmonic balancer.It ends up riding on a new surface on the harmonic balancer.Use that seal instead of 90311-45002...From a Past Toyota parts master.
