This is Darth Vaders Car! This 1987 Buick Grand National is in excellent condition. Sporting its original paint, she has aged very well. Mechanically she is in tip-top shape. We have driven her quite a bit since purchase, and are very pleased. Ice cold air, even braking and lightning quick turbo spooling acceleration. You should watch the video!

My first real sports car. Graduated college in April 1988, bought this car before going to flight school (army). Loved this car, got some crazy speeding tickets too! (Back when speed limits were 55, how stupid). Sold the car before heading off overseas to fight in the first gulf war. Wanted one everyday since I sold it back in summer of ‘90. Now retired and blessed financially, I am looking for another GN. BTW, love the modifications…looking to do similar once I get my own.

Back in the eighties this was easily the baddest vehicle in the land. It was destroying general motors Halo car, the Corvette. Which is probably one of the reasons GM decided to kill it off. It's was the hellcat of the eighties easily.

It could not out-handle and out-brake the Vette, but it sure beat them on the strip. C4 Corvettes with the handling package were world-class track cars. But they were never as cool as the GN until the ZR-1 came out.

Destroying the Corvette? Heck it destroyed the Ferrari in ‘87. A Buick beat Ferrari. LOL. It was tested at 4.9 seconds 0-60mph. In cool New England October weather these were fierce.

Brings back some great memories. GN's on the lot were out of my price range in January 87' - so I placed an order for a low option WE4 Turbo Buick including radio delete, manual windows and lock, solid roof, limited slip, and crossed my fingers - took delivery in June '87. Loved that car.

I dont know you Sir, but man do I hate you major leauge right now. At 15 my freinds and I walked 4 miles just to see one new Buick GN at the local Buick dealer in 87. 102 degrees in the Houston summer and were looking in the car so a salesman was cool enough to open the doors and hood. From the 4 of us I was the only one that knew the cars full potential as I always read Road n Track magazine. Johny says "this car aint shit "/ I wanted to choke him lol. He didnt know any better. To this day I can remember the smell of the interior the whine of the turbo. We werent there to buy but dreaming is free. If ever there was a sleeper.......

I really like the air intake below the driver side headlight. That’s something that’s been difficult over the years with dads is that the scoop is in the center under the front bumped so it has a tendency to scrape pulling in and out of driveways and such.

My brother had an 87 GNX that he just recently sold with close to 48k on it & I still have my 87 Callaway corvette Twin Turbo. It’s close to having 32k original Miles on it. We both had a lot of work done to both cars and never planned on selling them. But he just decided to sell it out of nowhere... I have No plans on selling my Callaway. It has to much time and money into it. It Never has seen rain or bad weather, garage stored & all work was done threw the callaway factory. Great video & seeing that car brought me back to when my brother and I were just kids.

Makes me want to cry, because I owned a 1987 Grand National and traded it in 1992! I wish I would have kept it. It was a running machine and it made way more horsepower than what it was rated. I believe Motor Trend tested another car like mine and it ran a 4.8 quarter mile! If you really got into the boost it would smoke the tires and chirp them when it shifted into second. I wish GM would bring back that 3.8 turbo motor! Thanks for a great post!

I remember when dad got his back in 87. I don’t remember a lot of people actually understanding what it was at the time. Everyone had been programmed to believe the Vette was the be all end all when it came to American cars. It wasn’t until it started showing up in video games like Gran Turismo that it started getting main stream attention.
