I own an almost identical one but with a couple of tweaks (quaife ATB diff and 3D mapped ignition to bring the old xflow into the, er, 90s 😊). Used to race it - drive to events, take the tools out and stick the numbers on, check the tyre pressures and off you go. It was still competitive fifteen years ago against anything in the class. Not bad for a car designed in the fifties with a pushrod engine from the sixties and brakes of a Triumph Spitfire 😁. I loved your reaction and review - you really got across the sheer simple joy of driving one. If you get one you won’t regret it - they don’t depreciate, cost peanuts to run and you can fix most things yourself 👍 Go on, treat yourself!

Mine is track and autocross focused. You can also find them with conventional seat belts, softer suspension, and a couple more concessions to comfort. But personally, I am totally in love with this car as it is. I drove it from home to Lime Rock Park and home in a single day, 300+ miles in a day. I was surprised at how comfortable I was. The biggest issue was the exhaust noise. I should have brought some ear muffs!

@dosh8276 Жыл бұрын
There's a french company named Martin. They made replicas of numerous cars, one of them being the Super Seven which are more street focused than the original: the engine is less powerful but more torquey and smoother, the car is a bit heavier and wider for a more comfortable riding experience. The Martin Super Sevens were especially built to cruise around the winding countryside roads rather than zooming on a track at full speed. The driving feeling is quite similar to the Catheram, it just feels a bit more tamed.

Great video, great car, lovely roads with beautiful autumn scenery. These were twelve minutes so well spent! For a while I had a Westfield SEight with the 3.5 Rover V8: it was heavier and not as nimble as this one you're driving, but what it lacked it made up in torque and noise (it had side exhausts too). These are wonderful toys but they really need a proper road and decent traffic conditions to be enjoyed, not to mention a fair weather: it's great that you had all these conditions to film this video. I ended up trading mine for a Lotus Elise, which is definitely more civilized but also more usable.

The Dutch hand builders 'Donkervoort' also had a kitset 'Series111 Seven' which was millimeter perfect to the original Chapman blueprint plans, and the lowest volume ever Seven builder is an NZ constructor 'ESC' standing for Edgar Salwegter Cars, who worked for Donkervoort in Holland. He emigrated to NZ in 1986 bringing just ONE Donkervoort Series111 kit with him. In 1988 he had completed the project and had constructed a WORLD ONE OFF Seven, using an Australian 3042cc Holden straight six engine with triple side-draughts and mated to a Celica 5 speed box and a Capri diff and rear axle set-up. The big six he blueprinted with a racing camshaft, a race head, and dynamic balancing, using a dry sump oil system to fit the big engine under the Seven's hood, with the addition of a smallish power bulge. He named this car 'ESC1' and raced it for a while before selling it. It was an open top finished in white and black, with wide white 'Minilites' and big rubber. The Koni suspension was reverted from 'Ackermann' for public roads. The thing looked and sounded amazing. It accelerated like a moon rocket on full thrust. It is sitting in my garage. I am too old and knackered to drive it anymore.

No bad karma from other drivers, some pedestrians wave and say hello and everyone looks (and listens!). The downside? You don't want be the shy type driving this. In hard terms it is noisy, impractical, dated, very costly initially, draughty, cold and generally daft. Yet, one drive and you're smitten as you have discovered. Great to see and hear someone who actually gets what Caterham's are about. I often go out to get some gas and the driving is so addictive that I end up coming home with less than I started with, I just can't stop driving it. You just don't need 500 horse power to have a great time in a car. I brought my 7 over to the states in 2005 from the UK. with about another 25 cars along with some U.S. friends in their 7's and some Ultralites and drove from Houston to San Francisco, around 4,000 miles in three weeks, it was the trip of a lifetime and good to meet so many great people!! My other car is a Porsche Cayman which is superb, but nothing compares to a Seven for fun on four wheels. Also if you want to see a fast Seven check out the Caterham 7 620R at FOS 2017 on U-tube, it beat every Ferrari and Lamborghini, Aston Martin etc. on the hill climb there.

I have watched this video 3 times fully now (and a few more part way through) and it doesn't get any less interesting each time :D I am fifteen and I already want one so badly!

Make me wanna go out n buy one!! Doesn’t get any better- this and/or a Lotus Elise, like the one I just watched Ted review. I thought the sound of that four banger was brilliant. But this one is on a hyper level! So guttural n raspy with real pops n bangs that together create such emotion, without being too in ur face. Just perfect!

Loving watching through your videos, so enjoyable, great selection of cars and driving that isn't over the top for the public roads. Thank you from Ireland. The roads there look very smooth compared to ours..

I just watched this with headphones and my left ear has never been so happy. I need a Caterham in my life. My ND Miata is a blast for all the same reasons but this is just on another level. I can't imagine driving something that weighs 1000 POUNDS LESS than my Miata.

Watching this brought back some wonderful memories. I owned a Lotus 7 back in the early 70s, involved in Club motorsport I'd had a series of what were uncompetitive cars, uncompetitive mostly because I lacked the funds to modify them sufficiently. The Lotus was perfect. Economical to race, it was very competitive as we were all competing with much the same equipment. To put the wheel hard over at 90mph would result in a perfectly controlled slide, touching an apex to the inch, or if being pushed beyond common sense would be retrievable even with my limited talent. It's a car that had me laughing out loud when in another car I'd have been gritting my teeth. Thank you for that.. incidentally.. mine was that exact same colour scheme, polished alloy and red.

Thank you for making my night! I just turned 30 and drive a 5-speed 2008 WRX Hatchback! I love it, but will always dream to drive a Super Seven. I just SUBSCRIBED and love your videos. Happy Holidays!

I was astonished by this car when I saw the opening sequence for my alltime favourite TV show - The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan, who also wrote, produced and directed the strangest television show ever made. KAR 120C forever !

What a great time of year to be driving this type of vehicle too. Great choice on driving road!

It really felt like a dream. I was heading toward a fun onramp, realized there was no way my hat would stay on beyond 65-70mph and took a right on a random road. Then that road turned into the best location I could imagine driving this car. Luck is funny that way

@@TedwardDrives That's great.... it was meant to be. I'll bet the vehicle you drove after this felt like a cruise ship!
