I remember binge buying these in January 1990 for around 1.50 per pack. Will Clark was the card that everyone wanted at the time.

1987, the year my brother and I opened CASES Of Topps, Donruss and Fleer. $13 a box or $10 a box if you bought a full case. Good times!

Some of those printing bubbles as you call them (printing marks) can be very consistent in that they become varieties. In 1987 Topps I have found some pretty nice ones where I have 20+ all a like. One has a round like eye of a lizard.
@chadhopkins85085 жыл бұрын
Thank God you got all the good cards. Looks like 2 boxes should cover all that. Thanks for sharing Erik.

1987 Fleer - 660 cards in the set. 36 packs in a wax box. You get 1 sticker and 17 cards per pack. Perfect distribution and not factoring the all star inserts from wax packs would get you 612 cards so you will be missing 48 cards for the set with one wax box. Fun watch breaking into these.

Fun break. I'd like to see a break of 85 Topps for a throwback Thursday.

Sucks about that Bonds rookie card, but still pretty cool, pulled a second one anyway! NO ONE will even get close to Bonds or Aaron's HR totals, maybe not even Ruth's, for a very long time. Albert Pujols is 39, and is still 129 away, but he's been fading fast, he probably won't even reach Mays this year..... Cool video ! Love these.

When I was really into collecting back in the 90's I remember loving this set and actually had it, but I felt the packs were always bad for getting good cards. The 87 Donruss was always a much better chance of getting good cards in a pack.

Mark Grace never achieved lasting superstar status with the hobby. That playoff duel with him & Will Clark both hitting like .500 in the series was MLB gold.

This set is one of my favorite Fleer sets to collect. I was in Junior High in 1987 when it was produced. It was hard to find wax,cello and rack packs in my area of Upper Michigan. Now I'm trying to put together a hand collated set. I have a long way to go. It really sucked to see that the Bonds RC had the ink defect in the card along with other stars and commons.

I'd pay WAY more for the Bonds card because of the printing errors, Erik. That makes it far more rare. To me that was an insane pull! Compare the amount of those to the regular ones that got printed to oblivion, and in that condition... That's an amazing card.

Phillies dumped Carmelo Martinez on the Pirates. Pirates screwed up the waiver process and the Phils got some top OF prospects from them on waivers (Wes Chamberlain, Julio Pegeuro) though none became stars. Pirates did not mean to waive them, but the Phils gave them Martinez as compensation just to be nice. Nice video

I run a printing press, a big giant commercial press. Your asterisk Barry was a bustle wheel problem, and such a shame for that card! Basically, a bustle wheel corrects (or incorrects in this case) the air pressure placed upon a specific part of the sheet going through an ink unit. In this case, it looks like the bustle wheels were offset in the blue ink unit of that press, creating that line. In big expensive jobs, this is absolutely unacceptable in the printing world. But you're looking at the junk wax era, where the guys in charge were more focused on quantity and not quality.
