I have an 85 T top TA, I swapped out the carbed 305 and 4 speed trans for a GM crate 350 and a 3 speed Turbo 350 trans.

After growing up with Knight Rider when I was a very young teen I finally got my dream car 22 years ago. A beautiful black T-Top Firebird that I've driven every summer since. If this type of car is Rare in Las Vagas imagine how rare it is in a small city in the U.K.! 😍

My dad had a new black '89 GTA w/T tops... the car was "possessed"! It was an absolute beast, extremely powerful, and fast - it was out of the norm for a stock GTA to the point mechanics at the dealership tried to buy it from him; he got offers cpl times! I used to take the motorheads (had 5.0 Mustangs) from school out for rides in it when I got my license(17 yo) and would scare the crap out them in it. One time Ill never forget I had my left hand on the wheel, right hand on the shifter slouched on the armrest took it from almost rolling/idle stop to 90+mph in abt a sec(NO I did not spin / smoke the tires) on a very short street, dude was holding on for dear life asks me with both of his hands braced against the dash "dont you get scared!!" I calmly said "no" and brought it to a smooth stop. Just an incredible car!

That was somebody's Pride and joy! I worked at C-P-C Van Nuys back then and this was the top of the line - the Indy Trans Am's with a turbo V6. Then again it maybe a Norwood car. Only the Vin# will tell. The front seats built at recaro so no front seat build up there. If you had them recovered it would be a Big penny amount! A real plus with this car is the paper trail. Really a big deal if you have any troubles in the future. I keep all mine on my rides, so the next guy or gal has a clue as to keeping it road worthy. That's a GREAT example you folks have! GOOD LUCK with the next customer, that one is sweet! Thanks for sharing!

That's a 5.7 liter 350. Not a V6. Those didn't come until 89

@@rwest1966 Your absolutely right! Yupper 89 was the anniversary turbo. Still a real nice example. By the way I never said" that" car had a turbo. -The Indy Trans am with a turbo V6. Or maybe I should have said the 20 th anniversary. Never saw a BLACK turbo GTA or otherwise roll off the line. The few that did were white with tan interiors. Detuned and sent offsite for tunes. Just like the convertibles left as hard tops, sent off site for top installs. I'm sure Norwood did the same.

I actually did a set of these seats when I did upholstery. If all of the air adjustments work then yes that will add quite a bit of cost. There was no saving them on the seats I did so we removed them and kept the same contours. That can save you quite a bit of money on labor alone

These cars were the coolest back in the days of 1990 the Boneville the sunbird the grand prix and the trans am i used to passed by a dealer on green bay rd on my way to highland park ill. And they had these trans ams on the show room they had a white a red and blacks i remember i used to look at them in owed they looked so cool. Its always been my dream car i have had many cars over the yrs since then but never had one trans am. I love it to this day 2024

Incredible car, love how meticulous you folks are with showing the very very small flaws for all to see , and the small sense of embarrasment with the dust and finger-marks. I had this very car. Same year. Same color. Inside and out. Mine had leather though. Bought it new. Kept it 17 years. Someone stole it and wrecked it. And that was in 2004; I’ve never gotten over it 😩

COPS had an episode where a detainee had a beautiful Candy red over gold GTA with a shaker hood. I had '77 and '79 Formulas. East bound and down AF. However, the GTA is still the greatest.

I had an '88 with the 5.0 & 5-speed. It was pretty cool and decently fast for 1988, but my '05 GTO only cost a few thousand more and smoked it in every possible metric... That said, there's just somethin' 'bout a Trans-Am!!!

1987, BAD BAD TH700R4 Transmissions, they didn't update them until 1989. If you FLOOR it, it will not go into OD, not only that but the output shafts will snap like toothpicks (I broke 3 with a 305 TPI).

99% of the drive the camera man pointed the camera at your face. I would of liked to of seen the road when you drove and did the wheel spin. I really hope your camera angles get better because you have great cars and are a likable dude but, no offense, I would of loved to have seen the road and not the interior while you drove. The walk around was awesome though!

Building a car just like this. I’ve always wanted one. 1986 It was red and in mint condition. Currently completely gutted and is in the process of being painted black with gold accents. Went with the formula style hood because I think it looks better with the gold bird on it. Bottom up build on an lq4 6.0 ls topped with a fitech stand alone fi which should make around 500hp backed by a magnum f t56 trans, built custom ford 8.8 torsen rear diff and a custom interior with 5th gen camaro seats im reupholstering. Same hawks mesh style wheel in gold too. I can’t wait to drive it. I did all the work myself and left no stone unturned. 14 months in and I’m closing on it fast. Another couple months it will be done. Other add ons include full suspension, fiberglass replica spoiler, custom gauges with bird pdf file picture on speedo to fit factory bezels, custom lighting and audio, custom leather seat covers with bird pdf file embroidery. I even made all the decals for the exterior with my vinyl machine.

T-tops weren’t offered wit the 5.7L until 1989… if u see a t-top GTA trans am it’s a 5.0 more than likely
