Only problem is the GL1200 rear 15" rim is not the same bead as a 15" car tire. I plan to go darkside on my 84 Goldwing Interstate after I fit a GL1500 final drive and wheel. 16" rim, same gear ratio, larger brake rotor. Have to do a few minor mods to fit. Finding a skinny 16" car tire will be the problem as the swingarm is narrower on the 1200s.

but im glad it worked well for you. brave man to beat on a tire when it has ....100 psi in it... and safety glasses on his head? tires must be tough, even used? I wish my car tire would seat on the wheel. I would have it machined for the car tire, if anyone would do that typeof thing for less than... just putting the MC tire on the wheel and figure in 5 years the tire will be dried out/split/tread separates from cord and will have to be done again. $100 every 5 years I suppose isn't too bad, but I wanted to try the car tire for different/siped tread to channel water out from under the tire when everyone waters the streets here when mowers cut off the sprinkler heads... and the water collects in the turns. love to have a 1500.... 1800 but my riding days are numbered anyway. so I will just keep the old GL going long as I can. took apart the rear brake caliper, pistons stuck in bores so no back brake. bike shop guy who did the last MC tire on that bike told me "the back brake pads are fine"... go figure... pistons are stuck in the caliper since no one REALLY maintained the bike. the rear end oil in ring and pinion was down to half of what it should have been. I FILLED IT UP with a nice blend of 90/140 gear oil and some STP oil treatment to coat the ring and pinion/bearings in the final drive to make up for all the miles it was ridden with the final drive half full of gear oil and NEVER changed. no one changes transmission or rear end oil in.... anything and then wonders why the tranny/rear end goes out... from lack of CLEAN FRESH OIL? a shot or 2 of grease in the rear end to really coat the ring/pinion/bearings? STP oil treatment is like liquid grease, it should be good enuf to protect the finals

when I was a kid. I worked in a gas station service station. I was putting a tire on a rim on the tire machine. A customer pulled up to the pumps for gas, I hooked the air hose to the Schrader valve to blow up the tire that I had just put on the rim and went out to put gas in the car. The guy wanted his tank filled so I was out there longer than I should have been. I remembered that I had put the air hose on the tire at the moment the tire exploded. The hose whipped up and broke two of the windows on the doors of the garage bay. It broke the 8 foot fluorescent light tubes on two of the fixtures. there were advertising banners across the openings of each of the two garage bays. They both went straight out from the wind. The fragments from the exploding tire scattered like a hand grenade went off. I’m just glad I wasn’t standing there when it happened.. another time, one of the other kids that worked at the gas station with me on Saturdays was helping me do the change over from summer to snow tires on a car. It was an atlas tire machine. Those machines had a centering cone that threaded down to hold the wheel on center and to keep the tire down on the machine from moving. we only had the cone threaded a couple threads, because we loosened the cone once we got the tire on the wheel, so that the tire could seat on the bottom of the bead..We loosened the centering con to permit the tire to seat, but we didn’t take it completely off.We were putting air in the tire, the bottom bead wire broke . that sudden explosion propelled the tire up with the tire machine attached to it. We were standing over the tire. If we had not had that centering yoke on that wheel, it probably would’ve killed both of us.. The man putting air in this tire in this video, is a very good tire machine operator/tire changer. But not experienced enough I have never seen a tire that did not have a warning branded into the tire sidewall, explaining that you should never exceed putting 50 pounds or 60 pounds of air into that tire... also.. obviously that rim is not compatible with that tire. If that tire fails, and the rider of the motorcycle with that tire on it is killed or badly injured, or the motorcycle cart wheels out of control and kill someone walking down the street or in an approaching car.. that business that employed that tire changer is liable. Honda is off the hook because they have warnings and guidelines in the owners manual of the machine that wheel is going to be installed on. they also have labels on the machine usually under the seat, instructing the owner about tire pressures, and tire sizes, and usually make and model of recommended tires.even if the owner of the machine that has a car tire mounted on to a motorcycle wheel has an accident that has nothing to do with the car tire being on the motorcycle wheel, The insurance company covering the motorcycle, if they have the right attorney, and the right insurance adjuster/investigator, they could find a way to not be liable. if the owner of that motorcycle lives in a state requiring annual state inspections for safety. That machine will obviously fail a state safety inspection. I was a motorcycle safety inspector with a license to inspect motorcycles, I would fail this machine. I could be held liable for passing a machine that was unsafe, that later went out and caused an accident. Point is not whether the tire will fail or if the tire will cause an accident. The point is, not only is it not recommended by honda. but there are warnings against doing such a thing. There is a big difference between not recommended, and warnings against doing it..And that in of itself is the problem it’s like instructing your five-year-old child not to ever play with your loaded guns. And then you catch him playing cops and robbers in the yard with his friends, with your loaded gun.. at that point, it’s not whether or not someone has been shot. At that point, it’s that your child was playing with a loaded gun that could have injured someone. It’s the same deal with putting one of these car tires on a motorcycle wheel..The owner of the machine has been warned, and still plays with loaded guns.. in court, a judge could find the operator of that machine guilty of reckless endangerment The tire installer in this video is the luckiest tire changer on KZbin. That used tire head over 100 pounds of pressure in it and did not explode. That is the only thing amazing about this video
