1987 Honda xr250r Ac to DC conversion & headlight upgrade

Details the installation of a TrailTech regulator/rectifier to convert the stock AC electrical system to a DC electrical system. This allows the lights to operate at full brightness independent of engine RPM, as well as the replacement of stock incandescent bulbs with LEDs.
I also show the replacement of a H6M 35W headlight with a HID LED H4 headlight for safer night riding.
The TT RR was about $55
The new headlight bulb was about $25
I had to buy new wire connectors which was an additional $45 for boxes of 100 connectors.
I already had wires, zip ties, wire nuts, misc nuts and bolts, and the battery.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. Exactly what I'm hoping to do. I want to keep the bike looking stock but I also want to have some awesome lighting. Also, did you have to find aftermarket stickers for your gas tank? If so, where did you find them. I I'm going to do a complete restoration this winter. Thank you again.

I'm pretty sure I got the stickers on ebay. They were identical to the stock stickers. Everything on mine is still working well. I'm glad the video is helpful.

I just ordered a trailtech regulator for my xr400. Mine isn't street legal though, I just wanted to be able to use hid bulb.

Little confused- does the H4 bulb fit right in? Did you require an adapter?

im gona try it on my honda xr350r 1985 with a 55w 12v led light its gona be nice for late trail rides i might convert my bike to a dual sport but for now i will install the light to a alternator

You did not have to change your AC stator out?? ....to a DC stator?

Excellent video. Looking to do the same for my 86 200r This conversion would also be achievable without connecting to a battery correct? I simply wouldn't use the extra wires nor would there be light without motor running...

In the middle of the same project...question if you don’t mind. I have the same Cyclops H4 bulb with their 12v rectifier. Where did you find a headlight or adapter to except H4??? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

The piece that the H4 bulb fits into came with the bulb. At around 4:35, you can see the matte aluminum piece that the bulb fits through with 3 small zip ties. I had to zip tie that to the old headlight housing.
