the fault lies with the NBA, they sacrificed defense and some rules of this sport for a show more focused on attack and performance. And yet I find that the matches now are much more boring to watch than the matches of the 80s/90s, there are not only bad sides, for example Lebron surely would not have had such a long career if he had played at that time. The game is evolving but not necessarily in the right direction, hence the misery of current all-star games

I watched a good portion of the 1993 All Star game a couple months back, and had forgotten just how competitive the NBA was back then. Guys playing all out on both offense and defense, hard fouls etc., while maintaining the showmanship of an All Star showcase. Woe, how the NBA has fallen. We didn't realize how good we had it back then. Thanks for posting.

You can say what you want about players today, but the all star game of the NBA is going the same way as the NFL pro bowl went. Ergo: Players not playing hard, and the experience of watching the game suffers because of it. You could look at the scores and say that the all star games have always been higher scoring than the average of the time they are in. And while the NBA has a lot of talented shooters, it’s tough to say that defensive effort was there when one team scored 200+ points in a regulation game.

I used to love All-Star Weekend growing up and these days I don't even bother. Upon seeing some clips and seeing the stats of this past one in 2024, I facepalmed and remembered why I stopped caring a long time ago. 80's and 90's NBA basketball was surely something special, along with the early 00's, and I enjoyed watching this whole game than I have any recent one in quite a while. These players weren't paid ridiculous sums for their possible potential before proving it, they weren't pampered like absolute divas, but rather they earned their pay, respect, and accolades on the court and only on the court. You can see the competitive streak in everyone in these old All-Star games with the real deal defense and offensive effort because they treated it both as an honor to participate and an opportunity to show their dominance amongst other killers. You don't see any cartoonish flopping, uncontested everything, and the players more petrified of being posterized or memed on social media than simply playing the game. The league these days is genuinely embarrassing but thank you very much for uploading this great All-Star game to juxtapose between then and now. This was a treat.

They hated to lose, and especially to lose to each other, and it showed in the game. Now the All-Star weekend is all about the league milking it for every dollar they can - literally had $1500 jackets in the merch area. Damn I miss the fabulous 80s. A real all-star game with highly-skilled players/HOFers showing up, playing hard and appreciating the damn fans. Not like today's joke of a soft-ass league with declining pathetìc ratings. 🤦🏼

This was the first all-star game I ever watched. How cool to see it again all these years later!
