These are records that were set 30 years ago, that haven't been broken by any 4 cylinder motor since then. This project is the only one in GMs history that produced not only world records, but also a world class 4 cylinder: The Quad 4. This is the pinnacle of American engineering.

So why wasn't GM turbo charging their cars in the 90's? With the success of the turbo quad 4 and the turbo 3.8 They should had been leading the way in turbo engines!

WOW what a beast. That Quad 4 set the tone for what is in automobiles today with the amazing exception of state of the art technology and MPFI instead of EFI. Just awesome engineering. Fun Fact: Jim Feuling was the genius that put 850HP-1,100HP in the Quad 4. Over 250HP per cylinder, or a tad over 10 horsepower per Cubic Inch. Red Line 12,000 RPM 🤔.

GM shoulda killed Buick and not Oldsmobile...

Yep they always had the better motors had a 67 Delmont 88 had the out of factory ultra high compression 425, killer motor. Even the 330ci in my fathers 64 Jetstar 88 was a work horse he had it since 65 then I ended up with it in high school drove it off n on up to 90's.

Didn’t Buick start GM?
@Bubbles23XI3 жыл бұрын
Nah. Olds ran it’s course. They became a victim of badge engineering. They had no identity in the 90s unlike the 70s and 80s. Also, thanks to China and Buick, they are keeping GM afloat.

yup the 2.3 Quad 4 as it was shown on the Cutlass for the day. And with quad turbo's tuned like nothing else. But look at the Indy cars of the day also they use small engines too.

Four cylinders can and will fly like that if they have the power. Displacement and # of cylinders are the lesser factors with flat out speed usually. Believe it or not there was four cylinders like that in the early 70s that utterly dominated indianapolis
@TheDman2166 жыл бұрын
basicly a quad-4 olds motor with a dual cam head and a biggg turbo.. That quad 4 engine was in olds FWD passenger cars in the late 80's thru the 90's and into the early 2000's in a single cam 8 valve and dual cam 16 valve.

... stupid FIA rules....You know, I thought that a Top Speed number, was a top speed number-- not HALF of a DIVIDED AVERAGE of TWO NUMBERS. Remember that anytime you see a certified, international FIA approved Top Speed number for a given car, just know that number is NOT it's Top Speed-- it's NOT the absolute fastest speed that the vehicle could achieve: Instead, it's the fastest speed it could go in TWO OPPOSITE directions, divided by two, which results in, apparently, the now "officially recognized" "Top Speed". ridiculous. @@crashtestdummy87 since you'd apparently never watched the show, instead to showing stuff like this, the narrative when it came to American cars was something like "mullet, can't handle, mullet, mullet, can't handle, mullet, can't handle, mullet, mullet..."

@@sidefx996 Well it is a fact that most american cars are inefficient boats on wheels that can barely take a turn. I like the looks of american cars tho, but thats all what most got going for it. The quad 4 is an exception and you know it Karen
