Proud to have been one of the mechanics as well as one of the primary drivers of the 1992 Aerotech which set 47 World and International Land Speed records. I’ll never forget this epic once in a lifetime opportunity.

This may be the must beautiful car I've seen ... Those curves look so smooth those wheels that are similar to the XJ220 .. and it's a car must people don't even know about ( I didn't know this existed until know ) . this a great addition to the unsung heroes series !

What Oldsmobile never disclosed (afaik) is that one of the Aerotrechs hit a deer going somewhere around 170-200mph on the track. I actually saw video of it and the deer was literally vaporized. Car was so we'll built that the driver actually survived with just minor injuries.

There were three aerotrechs. 1. "Short tail" version with a single turbo Quad-4 built by Batten Performance in Michigan (who I worked for), 2. Long tail version with a twin turbo Quad built by a company in Texas. 3. Another long tail version powered by the then new Aurora V8.

Going back through old unsung heroes videos makes me so happy. Seeing someone who shares a love for these incredible, quirky, interesting but forgotten cars just makes me feel so good. I've always wanted to make a racing game and this series has given me so many more cars to add to the list. If you see this comment, I appreciate this series so much. I had one of these as a hot wheels car as a kid in the late 80's early 90's. Loved it, I was always mesmerized by the shape. Never seen a real one in person, I didn't even realize any were sold, I thought it was just a concept car for marketing.

I would like to see you do a video on the 1990 ZR-1 Corvette, powered by the Lotus designed LT5, built bt Mercury Marine. A bone stock LT5 Set the 24 hour world speed endurance record for a mass produced production car in 1990. It also set the 5k mile and 5k km top speed records as well. They still stand 31 years later. I remember when the Quad 4 engine came out, and the AeroTec machine setting those records, I was and still is a beautifully designed machine, it looks fast sitting still. Well done. Love your work, always interesting cars. 👍👍🏁🏁

Funny thing, i discovered this car looking at go karts when i saw the aerotech go kart i wanted to see the real car and i was blown away by its performance and even more by the specs

Oldsmobile was doing great things in the '80s and '90s. Oldsmobile Aurora won the TransAm championship I think two years in a row. Too bad GM shut them down.

They were 2.0l in the Aerotek, production version for 2.3l.

I've always maintained that very fast cars don't need big motors. As you go faster, like, above 140 k/h, aerodynamics becomes increasingly important; and above 180+, they are the dominant factor. (Lotus has been proving this for years)

The main difference from an engineering perspective is around the long term stress of the motor in question. Which is why cars like the Veyron have huge capacities. It doesn't need to, but it means that the engine is never working particularly hard, and is always well within its limits, which for road use makes more long term sense. For records and competition vehicles, smaller, more tightly wound engines like this are a no brainer
