In his prime Peter Shilton was fantastic. As a shot stopper and organising his defence, he was peerless. In the air he was not so hot and, by 1990, when penalty time arrived he was terrible.

Maybe Shilton on longevity, but Neville Southall was the best keeper in the world for most of the 80's. Southall at his best was better than Shilton at his best.

@Puppy 1975 I said he was the best keeper for MOST of the decade which made him the keeper of the 80's. Shilton had longevity but no keeper matched Nev at his peak. I also didn't say he was at his peak for a decade.

Shilton's prime was in the 70s and early 80s. By the late 80s Southall was far better.
