I've got a 1994 K1500 that I bought about decade ago when I was in college (wow do I feel old now). Had a new crate motor put in it then the tranny lost its reverse gear 30,000 miles later and I never got around to replacing it. I had it sitting in my barn on our farm, out of the weather for 3 or 4 years. This weekend I decided to get her going so I changed the fuel, changed the oil, drained the fuel lines, cleaned the air filter and new battery and she turned over after a little bit of gas pedal pumping. Now she turns over each time without fuss. Rebuilding the driver side door latch, rods, window motor and control panel this week, then have a new tranny lined up for the following week. She'll be back on the road in no time! Need to bleed the brakes too! One of the most reliable vehicles I've owned. Nailed a deer in it at 45mph and my wife thought it was a speed bump haha!

Hey, I was just given a 90 k2500 (6 lug) it's a ext cab short bed 350 auto. The transmission needs rebuild, not leaving first gear, and the interior is wrecked from both doors sagging and not sealing, especially the passenger side, I could basically see through. I need some advice on what to do, where do you find your parts? It'll be my first transmission job. 315k miles

Was considering an 07-13 or the 99-02 generations but I just cant get over how beautiful the OBS body style is. Not only that but I am a DIY mechanic and I cant stand the newer vehicles with endless electrical problems. Might buy one tomorrow for 7k! High miles but Im willing to do what it takes to keep her on the road!

I just picked up my 14th "OBS" and it's my first C3500 Dually Standard Cab with the 454, NV4500 5 speed manual and 4.10 rear gearing. At 70mph I'm at 2,500 rpm. This truck is 100% rust free and never saw snow or salt roads being a dedicated fair weather horse trailer hauler with only 78,000 miles. It's a real survivor and is taking over the heavy hauling from my #13 GMT400 C2500 SCLB which I put a NAPA Reman Vortec 5.7 in about 10K miles ago. If anyone tells you there are no more good OBS trucks out there, they're not looking in the right place! Thanks for this video First Place! Cheers! Zip~

Great trucks a few more common problems to be aware of 1. Fuel pump failure 2. Engine oil cooler lines that leak. 3. 1996 and above old style spider injectors and lower intake manifold gasket leaks. The spider injectors can be upgraded to the new style and the lower intake manifold can be upgraded with the metal gasket style versus the old plastic style that leaks because of the deck School antifreeze. Other than that pretty nice trucks for their age

How do I know if my fuel injectors are going bad or fuel pump can’t tell can you help ??(96 c1500)
@Z71Garage
@Z71Garage Жыл бұрын
@@chrisvilla485 what's your fuel pressure? Here was my issues. My fuel psi was running in the hi 30's.knowing it was low and I needed to be above 55psi. I had already did a complete tune up including through TB cleaning and fuel filter change. Knowing that I could not dead head my fuel pump easily since the spider injectors and regulator was under the upper intake. I had no information when the pump had been changed or if the spider injectors were upgraded and it had 179k. I decided to roll the dice and replace the fuel pump first with a Delphi and then I knew in the back of my mind I may have to replace the injectors if that did not solve my problem. After fuel pump was replaced my pressures were 58 psi key on engine off, 61 at idol and 65 when I snapped the throttle using a cheap old harbor freight gauge. It solved my problem. Truck ran great. I knew the history of these trucks know fuel pumps were the most common failure and I was right. Sorry for the long explanation now to attempt to answer your question from my perspective is I don't know with diy tools. If it's running rich and your plugs are black or flooded or some off them are then that might tell you something like leaky injectors and if your running lean that could tell you low fuel delivery such as fuel filter, leaking pressure regulator or weak fuel pump. That could include a vacuum issue also will cause a lean condition and your pressure regulator is operated by vacuum. So to definitely tell you fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump is higher than my pay grade using simple home garage tools. I just narrow it down by the most common problem by what's the percentage rate such as the most likely is 80% of the time it's the pump. I am from Las Vegas and I am not well rehearsed in using a pico scope. If your really unsure you have to have a good mechanic not shade tree type to use professional diagnostic tools. If you have low fuel pressure and you have changed your filter I would first change your pump with a good pump not a cheap one. If you psi leaks down fast or loses prime after key off and your plugs are not flooded I would guess pump. Sorry I can't help anymore I am not a professional mechanic. Side note I plan on replacing my injectors for the following reasons. First I do not know if they have been replaced and I plan on keeping it a long time plus at the same time I know the lower intake gaskets are prone to leaking so I want to upgrade the gaskets to the ones that have metal in them instead of the just plastic OEM style. Then I know everything has been done and upgraded and it's the only thing left in my situation for a peace of mind. I am in the long haul. Sorry I cant help more.

@@Z71Garage thanks brother for all of your info now I can narrow it down to the fuel pump because I recently did a full tune up and it ran good for a week then it just started sputtering as if there was no gas in the truck . But thanks again man really big help !

I bought my 94 K1500 ext cab Z71 brand new the summer I graduated high school. In 2024, 316000 miles, rebuilt 4l60E, stock motor. Oil changes, greased fittings. This truck sat for 5 years in the weather, new battery fired right up. The usual Cbevy headliner sag, flimsy door handles etc have plagued tbis truck but I don't care. Still gets around 12-16mpg Wouldn't trade it for a new anything.

I forget to add the early 1996 had a transmission grounding problem that only effects the early 96s. The later 96s GM corrected the problem. It's a simple fix moving a few wires and adding a jumper in the wiring harness going to the VCM. There is a service bulletin out for this. When I bought mine last year I seen it wasn't done and I corrected it myself.

Fast forward to 1992 the crew cab pickups & SUVs were also redesigned to that OBS design. 1999 was the last year for the OBS SUVs & half ton pickups although production of the new generation half ton pickups began in that same year. The OBSs produced in 1999 were called classics while the new generation pickups were being produced also at the same time. 2000 was the last year for the OBS three quarter ton & one ton pickups.

I wish I bought 5 of the square body trucks in the 90s when you could buy one rust free for $1500. I bought a new 1990, Silverado ,reg cab long bed 2wd with a 350. It was 3 tone paint. They painted the whole truck Crimson red, and then painted black on the top and bottom. After 2 years, the black started flaking off, showing the red. I took it back to the dealer, but since it wasn't showing primer, GM wouldn't repaint the truck. ! It ran 285,000 miles, one water pump, one fuel pump at 165,000. But, 2 transmission 700r4 rebuilds. My question is, if I found a good body truck before direct injection, would a Holley Sniper fuel injection fit with factory wiring harness for a high horsepower small or big block engine. Say, 350, or 454 engine.

Brakes on my 98 I went Detroit axles drilled and slotted rotors with there pads and LOVE them . On that I have had 4 of these trucks from 92-94 and 98 and love them it's a addiction they look damn good there easy to work on . My favorite is my 1998 white gmc sierra z71 3 door. Also have a 1992 long bed single cab k2500 heavy half ton on a 6 inch tuff country lift wife hates but I love it lol .

I've a 92 excab c1500 Silverado. The Interior is done. It's cracked all to hell and ripped while the door panels are held on by zip ties. Lol. The 350 was rebuilt 30k ago and trans 10k according to the previous owner ...It's a 8ft bed with tow package. A fn Boat. Hahah. But no smoke and fires right up. Will through the tires which are now too old to smoke right off. Hahah. I have it sitting now out back. Went and cranked it last week. It does need cooling flush from sitting 3 years prior. Cleaned up the moss and debris and put new battery. I plan on one day paining it or dropping the drive train into a better looking body. Lol. I may also then eventually rebuild if needed and get her to about 400 HP or 375hp. Nothing too crazy. Just like to know I can baby her and keep it a sleeper. I wish I had headers on it and maybe upgrade as is too many choices. Lol. I agree with the comment. I have no idea what it was bored to. There is no stroke evidence as the previous owner said. The harmonic balancer looks stock. Only reason I know it's rebuilt is it doesn't smoke. It's readibg 198k

I would like to build one of these, but not as a daily driver, more of a garage queen, that gets driven a few miles on Sunday mornings. I want a 2 door standard cab with a non step side short bed 2 wheel drive, with a 383 small block and manual transmission. Cowl hood, old school wheels, RWL tires, and a nice sounding exhaust. No worries about rust in Phoenix, AZ. It would be getting repainted, but with NO clearcoat. Are these trucks old enough to be insured and registered as collector vehicles? In my state, any vehicle 25 years old or older can get historic plates. But I need to actually be able to insure and register it as a collector vehicle so I would never have to deal with emissions test crap again.

Nice video.. I think the prices for the OBS trucks are already soaring, especially the 89-93's for some reason....not just due to the current market rate. I personally have a 92 Mark/// that I've had since it was two years old. And I'd rather drive it than a new vehicle any day😊

There was square body then the other body style. Square body are million dollar trucks! For your family. Any one killed in square body from ruptured fuel tank in an accident is a million dollar check to your family from GM. Brakes do suck but a disc brake rear end from 04 ish is great interchange upgrade. Can get them for bout 150 to 200 bux and get some 2500 front rotors and have a complete 6 lug swap for all the newer wheels. Least that's what I did i on my 96 stepside

The 700-R4 transmiisisons were very weak and would burn out in less than a year! Other than that, I absolutely love the truck.

Ya this is one thing I haven't saw mentioned much in the comments either. You want the manual transmission if you can find one b/c the auto's never lasted if you worked them much at all.

I believe there a better trans then the 93-94 4l60e. To make a 700r4 happy comes to govner spring and do the vett servo mod and do some research on a good lockup converter. I got one a lifted 92 k2500 on 35s . Gearing it for the proper gear size helps and a external trans cooler .

Yeah...nope. They would burn out in less than a year if you towed in overdrive, and/or over capacity. If you actually took care of the 700r4, you'd have one like mine, over 250k and still shifting strong.
