I get people all the time telling me "That's a good looking truck, you wanna sell it?" Nope, never selling it. This truck has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have a 96 Silverado, it has 550K miles and still going strong, original motor, oil changed every 4-5k, rebuilt trans at about 380k. super easy to work on. I purchased it in 2008 from original owner friend for $2500 (deal back then) with around 140k. I commuted 1000 miles a week in it for the better part of a decade in Los Angeles traffic, it has a ton of power even loaded with a lot of weight or in my case tools. I don't drive it to work any more but its the best truck iv'e ever had, in fact I upgraded to a new Silverado, same model but over 20 years newer. I still have the old truck, been thinking about passing her on though. I know it in and out and can fix its problems myself. Its always the same things, alternator, breaks, rotors, radiator, battery or O2 sensors so it can pass smog bit I figures out I could reset the battery and drive it a hundred miles or so and the engine light will stay off. I live at 3500 feet above sea level and I suspect driving daily to sea level effects that somehow. Just think about it though, mine has over 550,000 THOUSAND miles on the original motor which still is good, doesn't burn oil and has good oil pressure, doesn't smoke and passes smog. It needs some love but other then a few small things its been real good.

Agree, these old trucks, if kept up are great vehicles for work and easy for the DIYers who love to work on vehicles. Simple mechanicals, only one computer to control the engine fuel delivery, for the most part nice interiors, and the best part: hugely available parts in the junk yards for almost anything that needs replacement. The aftermarket is still strong for any upgrades needed for this generation of GM truck. And, they don't look outdated in style or looks, IMO.

I have to agree I own a 94 and 96 Silverado, bought my granddaughter a 95 Silverado. Parts are easy to find and I love the pick and pull yards. They just run and run, great trucks.

Nice video.. I've owned my 97 Chevy C-1500 "shortbed" w/t for the past 14 years and it's my baby for sure.. it had around 140,000 on it and today 313,500 and looks and runs if not better just as good as day one.. Awesome trucks..

Have owned my 96 K1500 for eight years. 294k on the clock. I agree with most of this video. Have NOT had as much of a light problem, but for 27 years old, maintenance has been easy on the wallet. If you need to change the steering box, be prepared to do it two or three times to get a good one. Hint, buy a remanufactured one, not rebuilt one. Do wish I had the electric seats and the third door option. But, it is mostly the dog in the back seat, and he doesn't complain.

Love the video man awesome review. I have a 98 k 1500 had it for 5 years now been great she just turned 265000 miles. Just keeps on trucking only problem I have is the distributor caps keep going out or cracking. I did replace the trans at 223000 miles not bad I think. I lifted it 2 years ago replace all the steering and balljoints with life time ac Delco parts. Even with the lift still have not had a promise after 2 years with 35 inch tires. This truck is a tank goes were I tell it and does what I ask it to. I would sell it for anything. My son wants it I told he can have it when he can pull the keys out of my died hands ha ha. It's so reliable and easy to fix love them. My dad had one and I have one now great video 👍

@@Mr334cobra bought mines through a family member for 2500. He bought it previously for 4500. I think he paid too much. Probably find one over 200k for about 3500. After putting in my new motor and other parts, so far I'm under just 8500.

@@Mr334cobrathat's beautiful. Dont let it go to waste. Make your pops proud. So long as the engine turns on when you turn the key, it will always have a use. Biggest problem I had with mine was the damn oil pan gasket leak. Went through 2 gaskets before finally replacing it with a Mahle original oil pan gasket and a new spectre oil pan with drain plug on the rear instead of the side. Make sure to seal the gaps between the new timing cover and engine block before installing pan and gasket. 2 step bolt tighten sequence.

Great video. I have a 1998 GMC CK 1500 with 317k miles on her. Yes those darn tail lamps! Its super frustrating to be driving with all your lights working and then all of a sudden your directional bulb on the tailight goes out. Luckily, I have never gotten water in them. It is just because the circuit relay gets so damn hot (the middle bulb holder) and fries it. Its the least of my complaints considering how reliable these trucks are mechanically.

I would have to agree with you, the older chevy trucks are amazing. I’m in my early 20s now and I bought my first truck at 17 it was a 2000 Chevy 1500 z71 4x4 with the 5.3 v8 motor I love that truck I’d buy another in a heart beat if I could find one with little to no rust. But since then I’ve upgraded to the 2007-2013 model Silverado’s. They are also pretty nice trucks but the just feel a little cheap but I’m a Chevy guy I love my Chevy trucks 😎👍

This is my commuter as we speak. Up and back 60 miles two times a week with a lance camper on the back. It does 65 up the altamont no problem. It now has 328k on the original engine. I have how had it ove 25 year and bought it for 6k. I love this thing. Yea stearing sucka. The tail light were a problem until I put dielectric grease on them. And now it's been over 5 year since I put a new bulb. Before that I could realy get at most 5 months. This guy speaks the truth.

I have a 2000 GMC C3500HD. They were sold as Cab & Chassis trucks. They're the same body-style as yours, except for a filler panel between the grill and bumper because of the massive frame. Mine has the short wheelbase with a utility bed, but I'm building an 8 ft. flatbed for it. It has the 7.4 Vortec (454), 4L80E trans, Dana 80 rear end, I-beam front axle with leaf springs all the way around. It was the first year for 4-wheel disc brakes. They're unique trucks.
