Nice it’s in good shape With the interior anyway I had to tear everything out of my 86 Bayliner total gut job

bayliner wrapped their stringers well. I have a 89 cobra, the floors are completely rotten in. But the stringers and transom are solid. I checked with a 1/4" drill bit

HELLO, I SAW YOUR VIDEOS ON KZbin AND WAS SEEING IF YOU HAVE A NEED FOR A GREAT PROJECT BOAT. I HAVE A 1989 BAYLINER CAPRI BOWRIDER 19 FT,. purchased brand new in San Diego CA by my best friend who is the original owner of the boat. It has a 125 hp force outboard motor; it's what is called an "L drive" where the outboard motor actually sits inside the boat hull instead of hanging off the back like most out boards. So the engine is actually an outboard motor and it's connected to the mercruiser outdrive like the inboard works off hydraulic pump to raise for trim or lower it. First year he had the boat he used it at lake mojave never in salt water and stored it out there. One of his trips he was injured in one of the casinos and a six year law suit ensued.. After the settlement of the lawsuit he went to go pick up his boat, which was to have been stored inside an air conditioned warehouse (which he was paying extra for) only to find out it had sat outside for those six years. So the boat was reconditioned to bring it back to its original condition, including new upholstery tires etc. even the engine parts that were affected were replaced.Towed the boat back home to So Cal and it has sat in his driveway since for the last 26yrs uncovered. I know it's a long story but it's true. So the drama is he and his wife have covid and I'm selling it for him. It has all the paperwork (pink slips etc) and I have verified it's only $ 116.00 to register the vessel and trailer. So the inside of the boat was 6" of dirt and leaves and sand. The interior was completely weathered so I tore up the carpet and wood flooring to make sure the hull was in sound condition since it has less than a hundred hours on it. If you look on youtube there are tons of DIY videos of putting in new wood floors and restoration for these kinds of boats. It is actually very easy to do. You can do any type of seating etc. The gas tank is in great shape and hull is fully foamed for floatation. Like I said its a great project boat and galvanized trailer will never rust. I put two new tires on it myself just so i could move it. Make us an offer and let me know as SOON AS POSSIBLE. Thank you for your interest and if you want more detailed pictures email me your phone number and i'll send them today.. Sincerely, Dan 760 702-1335

It's funny how similar my 98 Bayliner Restoration project is to yours. Sorry to hear you had to scrap the project. I'm still powering through mine, 5 Months in! It is tough to stay motivated. But I'm Not giving up yet!

Do you have to put the foam back in?

Just a slight suggestion, but I’d gather all the wood they used to patch up the boat, and toss it in there front yard ....😱🤫 Kudos hope the restoration goes good bud.

I've got an 1989 maxum 1700 (same thing as a bayliner capri). Floor in good shape, but the interior vynal is shot. Recovered everything, looking better except the seats are beyond repair. Want to cut out the seat boxes and toss the back to back sets completely. New back to back seats and bases ready for install. Do the seat boxes sit on top of the floor? Or are they part of the floor itself? I guess I'm asking if it's possible to cut them out and have a flat spot for new seat bases. Any thoughts or pics are much appreciated. Great vid btw, very ambitious project.

It's not 2 stroke. It's a regular 4 stroke engine. Unless you have an outboard. I'd have no idea.

If anyone reads this comment, know that bayliners are NOTORIOUS for EVERYTHING rotting out if they are not stored inside or at least under a patio covering. If you can see any rot topside on these boats, 99% chance you'll need not just the floor, but stringers and transom also. Do your research before you buy ANY boat for that matter. I learned the hard way $$$.

these kind of restorations are very difficult. nobody ever finishes. just a select few that have a certain drive Finnish.
@jimp.67056 жыл бұрын
Not worth restoring. Take it from a 50-year boat guy. 80s Bayliners were the worst quality boats built. They have not still recovered from that mess. Parts for the OMC outdrives are NLA. Try to find a shifter cable or gears. You won't. Just trying to save you some heartache...

Jim P. Anything your willing to put time and effort into is worth restoring, just because it’s a Bayliner and not a brand new Triton bass boat or even a Chris Craft doesn’t mean it’s not worth his trouble. I for one love to make things better than when it left the factory and do some reengineering! I’m taking on a much more intense project with a trihull, but it’s worth it to me.

I got a 1990 that I am parting out right now. No f ing way I am restoring a boat that will probably leave me stranded. Bayliner were always junk. I got parts if anyone needs hit me up.
