This is one of favorite cars in your collection ... great refresher on all the details and RPO's ... I'm now in the web trying to find one, instead of working. 😅

HI Matt, Thank you for the video and info. A few months ago I found and bought a 1988 convertible, G92, LS9, 5 speed. She has very thing your talking about. The car needs some love, but I'll bring her back to her glory day status.

Go for it!! There are stroker kits to make yours a 335...or sneak a 350 into it. Telling ya with that gear out back and the 5 spd it will break tire SO easy in 1st and 2nd its a blast.

Hey Matt, I have to go hunting through some containers for a video from I believe was in 89. The other hurtle is that it's VHS. It shows the production line up through the trim level at Van Nuys. Funny how with their permission you could photo your Camaro or Firebird all the way to final line roll off. But this video shared by a person who was there after I left. Oh, happy day! If I can find it, I'll see what I can do to break it down to a photo for you. The Camaros and firebirds came up to trim with paint, window, dash all wiring into water test then on to interior install. They went back down to engine and suspension marriage. Camaros that were convertibles had a Fiberglass back window that had a Plexi. little window in the center. These were hard tops to start. Trim was mostly installed, but the rear trim was just tossed in for later when the car left for conversion. Neat to see the support you showed for the convertibles. When we did our jobs, the cars were on floor carts then returned to overhead fixtures before going down to marriage. So, it was something that we never noticed. The shocks were hung through, and you couldn't help but notice the difference Build sheets were taped to the hoods.so that was easy. All decals were installed in trim. Some nights we would walk the line for items that were wrong color, or damaged. When O/T was approved. All the way to the PMT yard out back. Out of almost 20 years with GM only about three years was at V.N. C-P-C. I had never work on an assembly line Due to working at a different Div. It was different in that when the line stopped, you stop. Lunch or break didn't matter. Not that you didn't get one. Sorry to ramble, I'll see what I can find?

Took the tour of the Van nuys plant yrs before I was old enough to drive my dream was to work there! So sad when it went to Canada. I could be hired if I agreed but was too young and didnt know any better. Didnt even own a car first 3 yrs I left home. Was 19 when I finally got a 67 rs Later,..I worked at a Rehab and a handful of patients were all employees of the plant. Lots of dope and booz on the line lol

@@gordocarbo Thank You your help at a rehab. Factories are like city's. The larger the factory, the larger the city. All cities have their good, and bad. Those that are strong, weak, and those that need a helping hand. At that time, I was there. Rehab was an option for those who applied when in need. Not after the fact. When GM or any large Co. leaves a large work force. That location suffers big time. Taking that tour must have been exciting. Cool that you got a 67. As a TMR there I worked alot of jobs on the line. Met more good hard-working people than not. Yup there were some losers. Not that it is excusable, but it wasn't any better or worse than any other large Co. I have worked for. I'm glad to hear that some folks that needed help, reached out for it. Thanks again.

Great information in your video. I Have a 1989 IROC Z-28 convertible in white auto transmission with a lot of the rare options . Trying to find the window sticker from when it was purchased.

My fav 80s F body that bright blue met Formula. My aunt bought a new GTA same yr. Every time she left a light it would chirp 2nd gear, I learned what low end tq was. I was impressed how it left a light had many TPI cars and modded them since.

J65 code was for 4 wheel disc brakes, the g-80 possi rear end, the g92 was a package as u stated, but mainly all iroc z cars came factory with disc brakes and rear, some did not come with this option, and came with drums to, the boug Warner rear end was a class on its on from Australia as u said, But the number one car to buy was the 1LE, G-92 and the best one ever made was the 1987 iroc z with a factory 5.7 Tpi and 5 speed, only 50 was ever made for company’s back in the day, GM snuck out them to companies to show there performances they had, The other one was the final 1991-1992 z28 BC4 police package for the D.A.R.E car made in white and black only, was the car to have but again only sold to police , I had one from Texas and was a ex police DARE CAR, with a factory 3.45 possi rear end, Great video my friend BTW, GEMERAL MOTORS never made convertibles from the factory, it was sent out to ASC, NOT GM

The only cars GM took pictures of was the GNX. They did not take pics of GTAs or IROCs being converted. I know this because my friend worked on the line at ASC

Around 88-89 I bought what to this day was the unicorn of irocs. 88 black/gold T top G92 5 spd Iroc Non 48 state car, now get this. It had a 350....Actual L98, was ordered that way . Never seen or heard of another. It was a theft recovery, S title which I could care less about. Ins agent would buy cars like this through the ins company Whoever did it...wow. That car even at moderate throttle would be fishtailing big time in 1st and 2nd I HAD to have it knew back then what it was. Came down from 12k to 10k...a month later finally got real . Stuck at 8500 I only had 8..couldnt find the extra dough and missed out on it. COuldnt believe the difference between teh 2 engines with the 5 spd the G92 made it. One day!! Wound up buying an 18k mi 4 eyed GT for 6500 and drove it for many yrs til it was stolen

Matt, I just came across this video looking for some information on these cars. As it turns out I just bought a 1988 Iroc convertible 5sp car a couple of days ago, it should be delivered later this week. It was cheap as it looks like it has been rode hard and put up wet, I didn't care about that because I bought it for a project car. (like you I've owned a couple dozen 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen cars but never had a 3rd gen setup like this.) All I really know about the car is it runs and drives, and has the 5.0TPI. (vin 3 matches up too) The carfax did reveal it was stolen back in 1990, but recovered the same day. I'm looking forward to digging into it and seeing what I have once it arrives. Do you have a link to the build codes anywhere? (I looked on your website but couldn't find anything)

Forget the CamarSlow junk, when can we fire up the Jeep and go offroading?
