Ah, you're preaching to the choir regarding the AMA. Wish you would write that book, but they'd probably have you in court for years. It's a shame that they have consistently stood in the way of US roadracing development. So many good riders, never had the chance to go big time, and really could have!

The bigger question is; why did they impede the development of US roadracing? They tried their best to sully and crush F-USA as well. The AMA were horrible. Was it political? Was it out of spite? Some personal agenda they had against roadracing perhaps. Who knows. But they really mucked it up.

I wrote and edited this series using footage accumulated via MotoWorld and other racing specials. I thought it would be an annual affair until the AMA wanted their cut of the pie claiming we acquired most of the video via news access circumventing sanctioning rights fees. Paying those fees made it economically impossible to continue the series. Sayonara Best of American Motorcycle Racing. I could write a book...

Denis Torres I'm glad Moto-America & Wayne Rainey are running things now, maybe things will get better and they will handle key moments better. example; Rainey & Schwantz at Sears Point 1986 racing hard coming up on slow back markers and being Penalized 1 lap each when it was to dangerous for them to do anything else !!! and those points cost Rainey the 1986 Superbike championship ! and in 1984 at Laguna Seca SBK when Wes Cooley and the underpowered GS750ES beat Fred Merkel and the mighty HRC and was disqualified for being 4 lbs. under weight when anyone who races (like myself) knows it didn't make one bit of difference !! I was there and Cooley road his ass off sliding in almost every corner and late breaking hard to make up for lack of HP Cooley should have kept his win !. It should of been handle better !! 10lb yes 4lb no way or maybe a fine to Yosh thats all but the AMA Fat Cats knew better !!!! and there was many more problems over the years as you know, like Spies wreakless front wheel chop pass on Mladin which cost Mat the Championship at Laguna !! That should have been called because it was so dangerous and bush league but the AMA never liked Mladin so the did nothing !! I love Spies also but it was wrong, well thanks for those early Motoworld days they were fun during a great time in racing !! RIP, Donald Jacks,Larry Schwarzbach,Randy Renfrow and AMA Formula 1 racing !!! Thanks Ronnie

I always laugh when i see the US model GSX600s called "Katanas" Shame on the marketing guys for doing that. :-)) Mind you Kawasaki did the same thing with the "Ninja" name, they slapped it on anything and everything.
