1988 Remastered Playmates Ninja Turtles... Beware, Be Patient, Cowabunga

If you're on the fence about these, don't rush... they will be stocked in abundance. Yes, they are cool but are being met with pretty off QC issues.
Be on the look for mispaints and off centered masks.

Get them. They are very well priced and do the turtles' justice as a toy and an adult collector WITHOUT SPENDING ASTRONOMICAL AMOUNTS OF MONEY. I have the mezco set and for the money, these can't be beat

These are such awesome reimagined updates to the 88 Classics. Immediately hit me in my nostalgia feels. Love the increased modern articulation and I even appreciate the skin texturing. Gives it a nice different touch compared to the originals plus turtles have skin texture.

I just hand picked my set a few days ago, and did see 2 of them with uncentered eyes to nose. I also noticed the white paint of all their eyes isn't 100% perfect because stuff like that can bother me too, but it is what it is. I REALLY hope this means we will atleast get updated Bebop, Rocksteady, Splinter, Foot Soldier, and most of all a new fixed Shredder how he was intended; being too tall for the original package. Maybe an April too.

And you’re not understanding the face sculpt, The original figures that released in 1988 were based on the mirage comic book design. Which had a sharper more turtle like snout. In order to sell them to kids, they got rid of the uniform, monochromatic, red bandannas and brown pads and gave them each individualized color schemes. The cartoon was then to sell the toys, in reverse, and they softened the design and personalities to better appeal to children and make it easier to animate. But if you look at the original ninja turtle figures, if you look at the original packaging art, those iterations look exactly like the original Mirage comic books. They’re all grimacing. Lean and mean. As opposed to the smiley face, slightly puffy and chubby cartoon version. And if you’ve ever seen a picture of the original prototypes for the 88 figures, they look even more like these 88 remastered face sculpts

And think you’re dead on accurate, but I do believe the original face sculpts were much more intended to be based off mirage than the eventual cartoon designs which soften the look to make it more palatable to children to sell the toys. Hopefully we get remastered Splinter, Foot, Bebop and Rocksteady. And god we need a remastered Shredder. With a shirt too please 🤣

Yeah, the vintage Donatello was a dark greenish-brown, whereas the reissues and this figure are just brown. Until Playmates gets their act together and improves their quality control, I am not buying any of their toys. I passed on their downsized Technodrome for similar reasons. NECA can have my money instead, their TMNT toys are vastly superior.

How do the new turtles look on the old vehicles? I know they are a little bigger, but only because their legs are straight unlike the old ones that the legs are bent. I know we got a reissue turtle van and target is getting the toilet taxi. I see you have the cheap skater in the video how do they look on the skateboard?

Although they are a little bigger, they fit good. They are just right for the van. They fit comically well on the bike but they have larger peg holes on foot bottom so they won't fit on the board pegs. But they look cooler I think on the og vehicles
