These cars were never intended to set lap times around a track. Cadillac is for comfort and long distance cruising. Drive 300 miles in a Cadillac Brougham, and you arrive feeling comfortable and relaxed, do the same drive in a modern BMW 3-Series Sport, and you will have back, arm and leg-ache, and feel a little tense. I would prefer the Cadillac, every time.

Yep. Drove my 88 with an ls about 3500 miles across Canada. Great ride

I have a bmw 3-series, all u gotta do is pop it into comfort mode and the suspension is way smoother; old car suspension can't beat new car suspension. Although, the cadillac is more unique and eye-catching.

It'll get there eventually.

The acceleration to 60 should happen about 5 seconds faster. The throttle and transmission cables can stretch over time and lead to flooring the pedal only opening the throttle part way, possibly never even opening the secondaries, along with incorrect shift times. This is probably happening here, so warning to anyone who owns one of these now and is watching to check these things if having issues.

No. That is pretty much what it can do. That is what you get with 140Hp, not much torque, long gearing and a lot of weight. And No it won't make any difference if the secondaries open all the way or not. The carb way overflows the anything the 307 needs.

Something is wrong with the transmission in that car. Probably a TV cable that is mis-adjusted or it got the wrong governor or valvebody in an earlier rebuild. On my 88, the 1-2 shift was nearly 50 mph and the 2-3 shift around 90 mph at WOT. Also consider the floor mat mod. The floormat on these cars prevents you from hitting Wide Open Throttle fully on the carburetor. Never even hear the sound of the Q_jet secondaries kick in. Bend the throttle linkage up so you can hit WOT.

@Fast355 It sure does seem like it don't floor it all the way, will have to look in to that, but now it has a 1975 caddy 500ci engine so it can't rev past 4200 rpm anyway but still could be killing a bit of power, thanks for the info :)

I have a 1984 Coupe DeVille. Been in the family since new. I know the 4100 is not powerful and had issues. I still love the car. I wish it had the 425

That was the problem with most 70's and 80's vehicles. Practically every car was slow except for the later 80's cars like the Cadillac Allante, Lincoln Mark VII LSC, the Corvette and the Mercedes 560 series car. But great video BTW. Please post with the engine swap!!

That 307 was only rated at 140 HP.....They put Chevy 305's and 350's in them for the final few years of this bodystyle which provided a little more ooomph.

At least this car is nice and has good gas mileage for its size. It might be allowed to be parked on a fuel efficient parking space.
