1989 Ford F250 - F150 steering column tilt fix

Thank you for the video! I had to tear into this while replacing the ignition rod actuator and the retaining clips for the tilt steering went flying everywhere! I followed your work and bent that rod as well and fixed 2 problems at once!

Thanks a lot Sir!! You are a smart cookie! After fixing my tilt steering that won't stay locked in place, I was wondering why the turn signal lever wouldn't enable the tilt. After a lot of thinking, i saw your video. I bent that rod back and it took a lot of pounding. I am just truly amazed that the rod can be bent out of shape inside the column

Got an old truck couldn't figure out why or how to tilt the steering wheel. Had to watch the whole video to figure out the simple answer. I was looking everywhere for an individual separate knob. Drrrr

Same here m8 it'd prob be easier to figure out if an owners manual for the 85-92 f-series existed somewhere online, but it doesn't, and most trucks from that age no longer have the original or like in my case, don't have one at all

what if your steering column pulls down without touching the blinker?

Then most likely something is stuck not allowing it to stay locked in place.

I know I’m a little late on the comment but I’ve just got mine tore apart as I type this and there is a sprocket of sorts that the bar moves down when engaged and the teeth on the sprocket start to break apart at least that’s why my wheel doesn’t stay locked in place

Any idea why the steering wheel won't stay locked in the up position? The tilt works it just won't stay in position.

Best I can guess without seeing it is the locking mechanism isn't functioning properly

Okay I put it all back together and you turn the key over and the lights come on on the dash but nothing sticks to start it or nothing tries to start what could that be

Okay I got the steering column put back together and the new ignition and key in and I turn it over and nothing happens except for the lights on the dash come on and nothing else the engine doesn't try to turn over or nothing kind of stuck here

I would try putting the old ignition switch back in and try it. Otherwise there is likely something not connected. Back trace your steps.

I watched till 5:00,there @hould be a hole on the left under the turnsignal,you have to put a screw driver in to release the wheel,I'll watch the rest to see what you find

People use the steering wheel for a hand hold to get into the cab, also bends stuff. Don’t do that
