Back when police cars WERE police cars. Those are hard to find these days. Big boxy body with steel bumpers, large V8s (though the '80s were badly underpowered), and BODY ON FRAME. I miss when cars were these. I have a Crown Victoria LX of the same year. I do like the fact he showed the wipers' function, something most people don't do for some reason, especially in cop cars. Police muscle!

The British equivalent in the eighties was the Rover 3500, a V8 engined car capable of 135 mph when tuned for police use and being a hatchback had a huge boot for carrying equipment like road cones, Another popular one over here was the Ford Granada 2.8, a large saloon that could cruise all day at 120 mph and being made in Germany was supposedly more reliable than the Rover.

@@Jamie2829 The old sealed beam halogen rotators were better too. Especially at night, in the fog, rain, snow, and mist. You could see the beams and saw an orb projected onto surfaces. This LED is just bright, blinding flashes and are hardly noticeable unless looking directly at them. As bad as those strobes they had for a while. The rotating halogen lights grabbed your attention and drew it to the source, be it a police car, ambulance, fire truck, or other emergency vehicle, which is exactly what you need and the whole purpose of the lights.

Joshua Echt the 88-90 Caprice never came with a 454 cubic inch engine. 305 and 350 for police package
@joshuaecht2 жыл бұрын
@@Johnnyjonas274 Correct, but I remember reading years ago in one of the books I had is they were considering a 454 police Caprice for rural states like Montana and Wyoming, with the TBI engine (The Vortec Gen II engine was several years off at that point). This proposal was around '87 to '89. They ultimately went with the redesigned '91 and kept the LO5 350 TBI.
@tieroneactual22282 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaecht Yes, I remember a magazine article about having a Big Block in a late 1980’s Caprice. It may have been Super Chevy Magazine or one similar to that. But after the LT1’s arrived in the 1994’s that pretty much took care of the performance issues. We had one Ohio State Trooper say that the ‘94 Caprice 9C1 with the LT1 was the first car they had since the early ‘70’s Plymouth’s that would actually break traction from a dead stop, aka do a burn out.
@joshuaecht2 жыл бұрын
@@tieroneactual2228 Thank you for this! I used to be on an Impala FB group that mentioned it, but can't find it anymore. It was the same one in the magazine you remember I bet. It was at Norwalk Raceway (interestingly, I am from CLE and have been there). 454 TBI, but it probably would have been as fast as the 350 TPI LT1 that was in the Tri-9s. :)

When I think of the LAPD. I think of the Gangland wars in South Central, the 1992 riots, the OJ Simpson pursuit in 1994, the West Hollywood shootout in 1997, and the low budget PM Entertainment Group action movie studios from 1989-2001. Speaking of OJ Simpson he's gone now. Passed Away from cancer so he is banished, and everyone can forget about him now.

Nice mock up but that was never an LAPD car. Back then the LAPD used alley lights on the sides of the light bar and never bought vehicles with spot lights. That was done on purpose for street tactics. Also the front bumper is wrong. Bumpers on LAPD vehicles were for traffic division cars only. Basic patrol cars do not have push bumpers on them. Also the 911 sticker is incorrect.
@EvanDowell12132 жыл бұрын
Well let's take this into consideration. Have you ever thought that all this could be added post retirement? I think it was an actual in service LAPD cruiser. But for the car show they just added that stuff.
@SummerlinRealtor7 ай бұрын
Hi, I worked as a sworn police officer for LAPD back in the 90's and we still had these cars in service. We did not have spot lights on cars like that until we got the 1994-95 Chevy Caprice. Also, the 911 sticker is incorrect as well as the shop number. Shop numbers back then started with the year of the vehicle's purchase and then the 3 additional numbers are the shop number. Also, it's a montage to Adam-12 with the shop number. It's nice but not 100% accurate. @@EvanDowell1213
