I met Allan the weekend after he got fired for this epic telecast. He was sitting at the bar at Daddy Warebucks drunk as a skunk. Too drunk to drive I poured him into the passenger seat of my old work truck and took him to his apartment in Old Las Palmas and slept on his couch. We woke up the next morning and he was in a panic, he was late for a meeting with a real estate agent at a house he wanted to buy. We pulled up the driveway and still hungover he wrote a check for his new Palm Springs house. We hung out for weeks buying furniture and decorating it. A memory I will never forget. 660 Palisades Drive next to the Frey House. We were great friends until the day he died. Rest in Peace Buddy.

@@CindySeifen That "Grease" money was still rolling over in 1989 ? He took some hard hits to the purse with "Grease 2" and "Can't Stop the Music" I guess . Wikipedia says HE started the rumor that Cass Elliot choked on a ham sandwich because that "sounded better" than died from DRUGS (is this TRUE ? Not the ham sandwich part . LOL) This silly into to the Oscars is not as bad as some other numbers I have seen . The gal playing Snow White was perfect but in 1989 did anyone care about Roy Rogers and Dale Evans (other than the Roast Beef restaurants- which had the MOST DELICIOUS HAMBURGERS on earth in the 1980s . They also had that "Fixin's Bar" to dress your hamburger up !). Now Scott has to find the Daddy Warebucks match book.

Omg you are so right. It used to be such a big thing when I grew up in the 60's. My mom would buy everyone's favorite snacks and we would kick back and relax. Nice memories, except it always irritated me that they didn't announce best actor till the very end when we were all snacked out and ready for bed.

The days and nights of families watching a multitude of weekly tv programs is a shadow of the past. How utterly sad! I grew up watching weekly programs with my siblings and parents. On special occasions like the Oscars and Grammy's, we'd eat an early supper. We'd have our baths get into pajamas and Dad would pop popcorn. We'd make a whole night of it. Even raising my 7 kids, I followed the traditions that my parents gave me. My kids appreciated it! Even though as they got older, they'd complain! 😂 However, if you ask my kids as adults, they all say they loved it. Yes, a huge piece of Americana is gone! 😢😢😢

I never actually watched this part when it originally aired…it was playing in the background while I was busy washing dishes. The only reason I watched the Oscars that night was to get a glimpse of Lucille Ball, who I read was a presenter that night and had been sick the year before. Of course not realizing this was her final appearance anywhere.

I suddenly was struck by an odd memory. Was there more than o=One Night of One Hundred Stars? Wasn't Rob on Merv Griffin or Mike Douglas, when he said something along the lines 'She's no virgin'(Melissa Gilbert) His cheeks were the usual pink. He seemed very pleased with himself. Something like that. I once had a run-in with Rob. I accidently followed him to the bathroom. Then, he stood behind me. I stood terrified at an Alfred Hitchcock movie at the bar until he went away.
