I am Malaysian.Didn't know older Protons are so much appreciated overseas.But then Proton lost its ways over the years and is now in the hands of a China company.They are making some progress since then.

Protons are highly regarded in the UK simply because the fact that they were better made and were of higher quality than those marketed to Malaysians.

@@jintonceng3165 ..nop ..they rusted faster there in uk..snow...salt.....uk weather preserve the interior material as compare to here in malaysia.....no car manufacturers will produce different metal sheet spec etc etc just to export to other countries...imagine the costing.....

@@fazrul78 ...no laa....I went to proton factory way back in early 90s....ask the workers there if there's any special metal etc ...nop...only that they are more lacking then those made for local market.....only change the dashboard to mitsu ones.....add sunroof....some got no ac etc.....don't believe me....go get the UK iswara/saga spec and see how bad it is compare to local iswara/saga...

I remember this car model as it was previously mentioned in malaysian school history book back then. That truly is a piece of malaysia history and its so nice that it has made its way to the care of a enthusiastic young lad all the way across the sea from malaysia. Truly a piece of malaysian history that deserved to be appreciated.

Proton Saga Knight is very rare in Malaysia although it was made in Malaysia. I am a Malaysian and i drive a Proton Satria.

malaysian here. currently own two proton cars..1995 proton saga iswara 1.3 aeroback(similar to proton mpi aeroback) and 1991 proton saga 1.5 aeroback(we call it proton knight)

I had just started my YTS at a car repair garage and we used to do delivery damage repairs on the brand new protons from the local dealership . Always found them to be good cars .

I bought one in year 2000 from an old gent. Not the Knight tho. He'd used his well though. It had done 112,000 miles and was a 1990 model H plate. I kept it five years after paying the gent 800 quid. I gave it to a student who was the son of my best friend. It was still working after he sold it on again in about 2009. It had covered 187,000 miles. It had a fab gear box and would go up hills in 5th gear depending on the gradient. It never let any of us down mechanically. I think the biggest sort of problem was a weak clutch cable. I replaced two and the student two. It was easy to work on also. But I hardly needed to

1.5 Knight is to be exported to new Zealand. But sold in Malaysia. But the above is 1.5 GL. Not 1.5 proton Knight. I bought one in 1989. 1.5 Knight is a hatchback model.

Thanks for that Richard - we used a boom mic instead of micing up each of our interviewees. But in hindsight, with such a busy location, we should have used radio mics for everyone. Lesson learned!

I heard that Proton is bringing back the BlackKnight in 2023 but as a estate car Anyway this variant feels pretty unique for its time, something similar of having the first 300ZX,A70Supra, and Starion GSR, sure they're much faster in terms of performance but they seems to lack some charisma despite their radical looks
