The 1989 Buccaneers and Redskins had something in common: they were undefeated against Chicago Washington clobbered the Bears in week 12 (another RetroSkins upload) while Tampa swept them for the only time in their Creamsicle era

I lived in the Tampa area in ‘89 when the Bucs swept the Bears that season. It was a very big deal.

We didn't make the playoffs, don't think. Even with a 10-6 record. Could be wrong. This was when the NFL was great. One of my all time favourite uniforms the Bucs, not the shite they wear today. Ours also one of the best of course. Iconic

@ForzaMilan-di2zd no playoffs, but yes a 10-6 record. 10 wins, playoffs or not, would be considered a spectacular success now, but back then it was considered a disappointing result.

@@ForzaMilan-di2zd We didn't make the playoffs, but the Giants beat us on a walk off 50+ yard FG and we blew like a 30-14 lead to the Eagles. All three WRs had a 1K yards.

Fun Fact - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins were the last teams to play each other twice in the regular season when not in the same conference in 1994. Bucs going 2-0 vs the Redskins in 1994. From 78-94 the last place teams from the NFC East and NFC Central would play each other twice. In the AFC it was the AFC West and the AFC East.

You are correct. Tampa Bay swept the Skins that year with two late season games. That was the first time they’d ever beaten Washington.

I remember that year and Tampa's rookie RB Eric Rhett ran for 192 yards in one of those 2 games! Nearly 1/5th of his season total! 😐

The 'Skins offence was electric in 89. Shame the "D" wasn't quite as good. The Giants & Eagles were pretty darn good that year also. Main reason we just missed out of the Play Offs.
