I dunno - there's a lot more bouncing around without much incentive to attack. The modern rules were shifted to help encourage fencers to attack with less risk. Perhaps it's worse for the fencer, but it's better for the spectator.

@@dzfz2100 The changes to the debounce time and lock-out time actually discourages attacks in the modern game. You can hit the chest square on, but if it bounces off too quickly, you get no light. That didn't happen back in the 1980s. Also, the lock-out time was around 0.75 seconds, so at least you can get a light on your attack and let the referee decide whether it's your attack or not. Today, you won't get a light at all.
