After loosing the team title in '87, the soviets was "this shit ain't happening again!" Haha This is absolutely the strongest worlds team ever and runner up is the '91 worlds team.

What a team!!! The best EVER! without a doubt. Stuttgart 89 will always be my favourite competition. I will never be able to forget that floor routine from Bogui, that awesome, incredible, perfect vault from Laschenova, that original coreography from Strazheva or that difficult beam routine from Dudnik. Muuuuuch love.

Has any gymnast ever been cuter than Lashenova? She didn't have the long, graceful lines and perfect form of the others but she had so much energy and bounce. She was more like a sprite than a human girl.

I would love to see more of the Porgy and Bess routine that she was rehearsing but couldn't perform either because she was pregnant in 1992 Olympics and Latvia was too small to raise a full team. Wish she could have done one more Olympics I see Laschenova as a great character actress the clown like steps and depiction of human condition in 1988 Olympics Chris Taylor's writing of this Floor Gem in her series in the Couch Gymnast magazine was spot on

Beautiful clear sharp video, wish I had first seen this team with such clarity in the film. Would love to see a dance alone video of 1989 with such beautiful cinematograpy? photography? Elena Sazonenkova had a beautifully choreographed routine of Bach the following year, and her dance and emoting was so beautiful, the folk dance in 1989 was not up to her later choreo and the brilliant choreo of all the other 89 Soviet gymnasts

In my view, Natalya Lashenova was one of the all time bests. But she was shadowed by her much fancied team-mates like Shushunova and Boginskaya.
