same here….. 9 years old, one coin, beat this game, people standing around me…. celebration!!! but back then i was having a goal, to beat game with no aid, no additional tanks, shield,rocket…. major goal is to make 2,5 mill points, and to collect those animals on every stage…. end if you reach 2,5 mill, at the end, when you land, pilot actually gets out of the cockpit and walk on the deck…. this game, the music…. bring me back to my childhood

I love this game even more than Area 88. When I got MAME, I don’t think there’s a game I played more than this one. I even practiced up and 1 cc’d with each aircraft on max enemy strength, no save states or cheats. I always like to imagine that Butan is Iran. I mean it fits if you read between the lines of the game’s intro text. And the Carl Vinson is stil in service, though only the legacy Hornets are.

The US Navy recently retired the legacy Hornets. Only the USMC still uses them and they are getting phased out over time for the F-35B. Even the Harriers are being replaced (they recently graduated their last AV-8B pilot class with only 3 pilots and are not training any new ones). Used to blow all my tokens on this game though at a pizza place as a kid. Because of some older kids teaching me the "F word" I still remember the Tu-160 Blackjack as "That Fucking Thing" instead of "Blackjack".

Is this really hardest difficulty? I remember Carrier Airwing on hardest having WAY more resistant enemies. The big tanks and the helicopters especially could resist many, MANY seconds of sustained fire.
