For the purpose that it serves, that buzzer is meant to be annoying. Whenever you have the key in the ignition and the door open, the buzzer sounds to alert you not to forget your key. Also, it sounds whenever you have the key out of the ignition and the door open but your headlights are still on, so you remember to turn them off and don't drain your battery. The Germans knew how to get the driver's attention, unlike that barely audible ding-ding heard on most cars.

Great car, great car. What else can I say? The Mercs of this era were the best, truly "engineered like no other car in the world." These were the last of the truly well-made Mercs, before the danged drop in quality. Sure, Mercs after these were still nice cars, but really not the same. These, the W116 And W126 S-Classes, the SLs of the same era, and the W124 E-Class were the dream cars of my childhood and youth.

@benzlover55 I am pretty sure on the 560 the reclining seats were standard in the back, but only on the 560 SEL, the SE, etc did not have them (not enough room) and given that the 500/560 was the top model, it was standard. As for heating, I think that was standard all around most S class models. The reclining rear seat in my 560 is pretty cool, but the REALLY rare option was two separate seats in the back. It was a factory option. Console in the middle. Much like the front.

I think that paint on the bottom comes from when they paint fresh lines on the road. I got some of that on my car over the summer and it was a pain in the ass to get off.

Heated and reclining rear seats were standard on all 560SELs from 1990-1991. Likewise, passenger airbags were standard on all V8 models from 1990-1991.

@benzlover55 What model do you have. Those were standard on almost any 500/560 SEL, like the moonroof is. Although its possible to remove the standard items.

Think he's talking about the "BEEEEEE" that goes on when he enters the car. Afaik, all cars shipped to America needs some sort of noise when the doors are open, for reasons I do not know. Also that's a great W126, Nathan! Do you still have it around or has it been sold?

80, that's funny. These things aren't any highway car, they're autobahn cars. I've had my tired old 300SE to 120 and it felt like 70. These things are so solid I swear they're hewn from granite.
