At the risk of derailing the video, this all reminds me of my Grandma Dot. She was a van nomad starting in the late 70's in her mustard yellow pop top Vanagon that she named "Marigold". Marigold was the coolest thing ever for for a kid and my clearest memory of Marigold was when she took me to see Peter Pan on Broadway with Sandy Duncan - we had to take an alternate route because we couldn't take propane through the tunnel. She was always an advocate for nomad life (though I don't think it was called that in the day) and even started several nomad communities. The only one I remember by name was "WIN" which stood for "What I Need" that was sort of like a senior singles group or something. We lost Grandma Dot to pancreatic cancer in.... 2013? One thing that always makes me think of her is seeing old VW vans and old camper vans. She was my hero.

Brig, what a cool story- thanks for sharing! You need to convert into a kids book. What year was your gran born? Just wondered if she might have been from the hippie era?
@Brigand231 Жыл бұрын
@@Good-DaySunshine Honestly, I don't know when she was born or how old she was. I'm fairly positive she survived the Great Depression and it showed in her mindset for not wasting anything - my favorite spoon at her house was a teaspoon that had gotten chewed up a little by a garbage disposal (and she refused to get rid of it) that I used for a grapefruit spoon - I only ever ate grapefruit at her house. I also remember my parents telling me she had eyes in the back of her head, so the next time I was visiting her, she was woken up by me going through her hair to look for them. My parents were more of the hippie-type. I remember when I was a kid they had a large water pipe in their bedroom and when I asked about it, they told me it was a water cannon, but they never let me play with it; it only came out when they had friends over and I was in bed. I got to play with punching balloons though, when their friends brought over whippets. Sorry, oversharing as usual, just recalling things I hadn't thought of in decades.

I really enjoyed your tour, William - you are so easy to listen to and to relate to. I love your Ruby, and I also loved the way you referred to her by name so often. It's obvious that you feel a good deal of affection for the old girl. I also have a Ruby, although she's not anywhere near van size. She's a little wine-colored 2002 Chevy Tracker, and she fits me perfectly - I truly do love her. Her full name is Ruby Tuesday. I'd started calling her Ruby Two when I first got her (she's my second beloved Tracker of that name, both were used when I got them), and a good friend suggested the second part of her name. ANYway... I love your Ruby and everything you've done with her to make her your home, to be able to pursue your photography career. I wish you well, always. 😊

Great build. I like how you were intentional about getting started with Ruby version 1.0, seeing if it would work, noting things you wanted to change, then doing Ruby 2.0. I love how the van and your career fit your love of being outdoors and building such an expanded family all over the country. Excellent example of living your best life!

Technically this is Ruby 3.0 haha I had another build in between! It's definitely a progression and as you change it's great to be able to change your space!

If your eyes are senstitive to light, you may very well have glaucoma which will eventually lead to blindness UNLESS you get it diagnosed ASAP and start taking the right meds. They can stop its progress but not reverse it. Please get your eyes checked right away and get on the right meds to slow it down or stop it ASAP. IF you have it. I have it, got it diagnosed in time, and have lost only a little vision. Reply if you have questions.

Loved the tour. Having a Wolfie Westy, isn't your engine, like mine, in the rear? How do you access it? At only 5'5" I can stand under my skylight barefoot, so don't have to pop my tent, but it sure gives me a lot of room up top for all my crap when I do!! Hopefully you'll join some of the VW groups here in the PNW so we can meet and see your masterpiece in person. You have done a great job! 🚐☮️
@WilliamWoodward2 жыл бұрын
I guess I didn't mention that! The storage under the bed is lifted about 2ft off the height of the engine bay, so that you can pull the engine cover off and out to work on her. I do have to pull out the gear that is in that space though, so that all lives in a couple containers.

8:27 - the console mods in wood, love it! I need something like that myself. So handy and cute. fyi - When your eyes are sensitive to light, you need more Lutein in your diet. Raw kale and blueberries have lutein. Costco also sells Lutein + Zeaxanthin - take 1 daily every morning. Carrots and Squash will help with retinal health. You need both. Rinse your feathers in diluted bleach and don't put them so close to your face in the van. Birds have zoonotic diseases. fyi - Social MEDIA, not MEDIAS. Media is plural. Medium is singular. Lovely van build, very simple and functional man cave. You can see he is living his best life, doing all the great things one can do outdoors. Well done! Keep it up and see as much as you can see before you acquire house, spouse, and trimmings. This is the way to live.
