Happy Birthday Jim!!!!! 🍦🧁 somebody please tell me that I’m not the only one who had a bad day and looked at that raw cake batter and went Do I really have to bake them or can I just dunk cookies and dig in? My late mom is positively having a fit right now. Mom it’s OK. Really. And you’ve had a day like the one I have raw cake batter could almost be considered health food, certainly healthier than the double martini. I wanted when I got home but didn’t have. 🤣🍸🍸 and I worked at Dairy Queen in high school I could never get the swirl right! You did great.

We didn't have the cookbook; I don't even remember it or the commercial. But I remember being surprised and delighted one birthday when Mom served up birthday cake ice cream cones like this. She didn't tell me about it beforehand, so I was just expecting a regular cake. I think she had a candle in mine, or maybe in all of them, I don't remember that part. What a nice surprise! Happy birthday Jim! Anna, I know what you mean about recipes you didn’t make in your childhood and wanting to make them now. In Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls from the ‘60s, there was a rectangular castle cake, using the pointed sugar cones covered with frosting for the turrets. I dreamed of making that as a child but never had an opportunity until I decided to fulfill that dream for my daughter’s 9th birthday. She & I had such a good time making it together.

I was too old for the cookbook (1992 was the year I got married) but I definitely remember birthday cupcake cones! I think my mom and my aunt both made them for different birthdays for my siblings and cousins and I. The frosting was never that perfectly and generously piped, however. I love the way you did them, the frosting looks exactly like soft serve! Most kids would be thrilled to have a big old pile of frosting to lick!

OH this brings back memories. I worked in a local school system where I saw a student bring these in for their birthday treats. All I kept thinking was such a neat idea especially since there wouldn't be the mess of the cupcake wrappers (given to the right student you can have a disaster in the classroom). I convinced my oldest to let me make them to take to school. I had no idea how to make them but how hard can it be? Well......we ended up with a HUGE mess in the oven, all over the cones, and none of them were salvageable thanks to putting way too much batter in the cones. I ended up making a quick batch of brownies for him to take in instead. Well after that, whenever I would suggest that we do the cone cupcakes for birthday treat, my sons (all 4 of them) would say no! Never made them again.......

Oh, we almost always had ice cream cone cupcakes for school birthday parties! They were considered less messy for kids to eat because you didn't have to peel any cupcake paper off, and get frosting all over your hands. This recipe is definitely older than the 1990s, since I grew up in the 1980s and had then all through my childhood.

Guess what?! Your video really hit home with me today and brought back a lot of good memories! I have that cookbook sitting on my kitchen shelf. I made the green dragon's breath cake. But I made it as charizard from Pokemon for my grandson when he was young. He has 3 beautiful children now. So that tells you how long ago it was! That worked wonderfully! I also made the self decorating cake for the 4th of July and that was a great success! Just a tip… you need to do that one outside because it's kind of messy but such fun! I did the baked ice cream cones and as you know, they worked very well. I did a version of the upside down pineapple Christmas tree And it looked quite festive at Christmas! ( My daughter's friend used the top of a pineapple and put pringle chips on top of the leaves for lunch one day with our sandwiches and it was so cute.) I also did the great earthquake cake. And that was my favorite thing out of this book! Everybody was freaking out when he blew on the candles and it started cracking the cake down the middle LOL I enjoy your channel so much! I know it is a lot of work, making the food and editing the videos. But you are so appreciated! I would love to see you do the monster in the popcorn or the cookie car that actually runs! Thanks again and keep on cooking!

I’ve done these for a couple of Girl Scout events. Best way to transport them is those flat shallow soda boxes- the ones that hold I think 24 cans and are the brown cardboard. Turn it upside down and cut an x the same diameter of the soda can. It will be the perfect size to jam a cone into. Usually decorating them is an activity but if you are pre decorating make sure you leave enough time for the icing to harden on the outside a little before you move them because they do like to lean. I usually find a #10 disher (scant 1/2 cup) to be the right size for these.

I remember making these, but I thought we put the batter in the cupcake pan and pushed an ice cream cone down into it. I remember having problems with the cones tipping over in the oven while baking so that was our solution. We may have also tried putting the batter in the cone then inverting it into the cupcake pan. I remember this was one of the messiest treats we ever made and that my mom finally said no more of this recipe. Lol it was like making a volcano except we put it in the oven, turned on the oven light and would sit and watch what chaos would unfold.

I remember these! There was one mom who made these with an ice cream scoop of frosting on top 😆 then there were moms who were worried about the amount of frosting who purposely overfilled them to get domed tops and spread the thinnest possible layer of frosting on top. I never saw them piped to look like soft serve in the 90s, but these are cute!
