I grew up watching the cubs on WGN In the 80’s and 90’s. I’m pretty sure they had stopped using that opening by 1990. I only remember it in the later half of the 80’s.

I never knew that about KWQC! Pretty neat. (I do remember WQAD airing some Cubs games during the 1980s... possibly also during the Cubs' miracle season in 1984! Of course WGN was on all the cable systems in the QCA so it would almost be like overkill for some people.)

WGN-TV began using the first several graphics right at the start of the 1986 season.

Did KWQC carry White Sox games as well?

Nope. Just the Cubs, and just for two years (1990-1991).
