Joe Gibbs proved that you could win 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QB's. I believe he's still the only NFL coach to have done it. Gibbs was a master at building great teams on offense, defense & special teams. He never had a super star Montana / Marino level QB but the 3 he did have were all good enough to get it done.

@@davec1294 Bears would have won 3 SB's under Gibbs. You can make the case that the Bears teams in the 80s were better than Gibbs' Redskins. Big difference was that Gibbs was a superior coach than Ditka.
@Mr.sock282 жыл бұрын
@@Joseph-lz5er yes, which was proven by Gibbs definitively when he went into Chicago twice in the playoffs ('86 and '87) as an underdog and beat Ditka. That '86 Bears team was 14-2 and looked like a lock to repeat in the Super Bowl. The Bears and Ditka were cocky. The local headline was "Bears Ready If Redskins Even Show Up" - the Redskins showed up and dropped 27 points on their vaunted defense. And they beat them again the following year with Darrell Green's punt return and McMahon's turnovers. You might say Gibbs and the Redskins singlehandedly prevented a Bears dynasty in the mid 1980s.

Jerry Glanville is such an a-hole. In an interview in 2021 he said he was still bitter about Joe Gibbs allegedly asking the grounds crew to leave the field uncovered leading up to this game so that it would be water-logged and slow down Glanville's "faster" team. He conveniently forgot to mention, nor did the interviewer bring it up, that Glanville's Falcons had lost to the Redskins earlier in the season on a dry RFK by 39 points (56-17)! Rypien threw SIX TD passes in that game. Glanville was lucky the field was wet for this playoff game. I was there - there was no need to water it down. It had rained for days and it just poured the entire game. That's how I got there - Mom and Dad had bought season tickets from someone in the diplomatic corps (as I recall) and, while Mom love going to the games, the rain was too much for her - she told me the day before that I could go - she didn't want to sit in the cold rain. I'm a lifelong Raider fan - we used to hear the same complaints from opposing teams - the truth was the Oak-Al Co. stadium was built below sea level and close to the bay - it was always soggy there. But it didn't slow Warren Wells and Cliff Branch.
