In Australia our version of that was called the Holden/Isuzu Frontera, the Holden/Isuzu Rodeo downunder was a cab/chassis U in long or short wheelbase in 2 seat, space cab with a really small flat bench in the back along with a proper 4 door version, we only had the 2.6L with 5 speed/4 speed auto and the only other engine was a diesel 2.2L same transmission options, I owned a long wheelbase 2 seat version with the 2.6L/5 speed and it was pretty good for burnouts but with a long chassis drifting it in the wet was fun 😀

In Germany this car was released as the Opel Frontera. I own one from 1995 and drive it daily. I really like the classic design and mine even got a bull bar with attached highbeams and fog lamps. Unlike modern cars you actually have a lot of interior space (also due to not having airbags lol) and the truck is capable of proper offroading which many modern cars are not really designed for anymore. The Rodeo/Frontera is also pretty easy to repair due to its relatively simple technology.

My first car in HS, my junior year 2004, I got a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo LS, 5 speed, 4WD and V6. The 1995 had the Isuzu made, 24 valve, SOHC V6. Just a half-model-year later in late 95 they upped the V6 from 175 to 190 HP (Mine had the 175 hp motor). I had it for 8 years until I got in a wreck and totaled it. Drove that truck all over and hauled canoes in the back, tailgated out of it, camped, went down to the Outer Banks of NC and cruised on the sands. That thing was rock solid. Only modification I made was 31x10.50R15 all terrains. It cleared 31” tires without a lift and without rubbing the fender wells.

91-92 Rodeo 4x4s came from the factory with 31x10.5 then they switched it to 235/75/15 in 93, probably as a cost cutting measure.

1995.5 model was launched in the spring of 1995, not late 1995. I know that, because they made a big deal about the addition of airbags. The first 1995 Rodeos were sold in 1994, before the April/May 1995 changes.

Man I thought the early 90's 4Runner with the 150hp "3.slow" v6 was a dog. This thing takes the cake with that miserable GM 3.1 V6, designed for your grandma's 1982 Buick Century. They couldn't have sprung for the truck 4.3 V6, those were reasonably powerful in the old S-10 Blazers. Of course Jeep blew everybody out of the water offering a V8 on the Grand Cherokee in 1993. Also interesting is how I still occasionally see early 90's 4Runners, S-10 Blazers, and Grand Cherokees on the street. Can't think of the last time I saw a Rodeo on the street, even the newer 2nd gen ones.

The 3.2 V6 versions were a lot better. I had a 95 with the SOHC 24 valve 3.2, and it put out 175 HP and 188 torque. Then they did some tuning for the next model year and the output was 190 HP and the same torque. At this point in the 90s, That was in line and competitive with, and sometimes more powerful than the other Japanese brands offerings. Toyota 4Runner (3.0 V6, 150 HP and 180 torque), Nissan Pathfinder, (3.0 V6, 155 HP and 180 torque). It’s funny the US manufacturers were actually more powerful in either HP or torque, or both, than the foreign competition, albeit with higher displacement engines. Chevrolet had the Blazer (4.3 V6, 160 hp and 230 torque), the Jeep Cherokee (4.0 I6, 173 HP and 225 torque), and Ford Explorer (4.0 V6, 160 HP and 225 torque).
