Was only 7 years old and remember picking her before the race. Sad to hear she passed away recently, great horse.

She had an absolute stunning year that year. In fact it was probably one of the greatest. I recall she almost won the cox plate first up from a spell the next year except for a protest fighting out a photo finish with two equal superstars in super impose and better loosen up. Great mare indeed

A mighty mare she was. One of my fave's. Second horse was probably a good thing beaten though, but that's what separates the champions from the 'could have beens'. They just know how to win.

Absolutely correct, and he was severely interfered with at the 300 mark, probably from Lets Elope slightly running in movement when she sprinted and this resulted in a chain reaction where a few horses coped a check. Shivas Revenge died not long after this race, I have no doubt had he continued to race on he would have been one of the old-time greats in Australian racing. Lets Elope started her career with Dave/Paul O'Sullivan in New Zealand before joining Bart.

While admitting that Let's Elope still would have won, it would have been a great length of the straight battle with Super impose, if Let's Elope's jockey had not flattened him just before straightening, as without this check, Super and Let's Elope would have been stride for stride together down the straight, but still very likely she would have edged away in the last bit.

Super Impose was carrying too much weight to be a threat that day.

Took out Dr Grace as well took alot out but that's how she was smash em up tactics or else Super got one back in the Cox Plate
