Paula has such a distinct voice that I believe she took lead on Opposites Attract. I do hear the mix with I Need You as others are saying. I recall the record company saying they were putting her vocals up and center with the next album and while I could tell they did, I also don't think her voice was better for it. She has also admitted her vocals aren't spectacular and yet, she doesn't seem to fail at entertaining the masses.

You actually need trained ears to hear the guide track being used on this song but its definitely a female vocal also singing lead that sounds like another person being used under parts of Paula's lead. Most mixers use a double performances of the same singer to do this(it adds character to the performance...its used in rap alot such as most of Tupac's vocals or especially the rapper Young Jeezy) but seems to be another person's voice(Yvette's). However, in "I Need You" it can be heard quite clearly that another person singing lead is having segments of their performance mixed into Paula's. Anyone who has mixed vocals for many years can testify to that. Dunno if that justifies the lawsuit though and def isnt Paula's fault.

@@Nick-zn1vj in 2013 team Britney used singer Myah Marie for singing harmonies, adlibs, demo vocals for britney but in final (mix) they used most of vocals from myah and some parts and only 2 songs are on album from Britney. In duet with her sister Britney just did a few words and the rest sung Myah. Thats why I said Britney Jean album in 1991 because Paula is lazy .)

The only reference to jLo is because she does or did buy tracks as an executive producer. None of these allegations against jLo have merit and no one really came up not one or even say foul was done. All the credits in linear notes in initial pressing acredits “ashanti douglas”. Newer platforms like digital sales no longer are required unless said backup singers are union, establish artists then or now.

She sent over a reference track for a song SHE wrote and was paid as if she was a background singer and NOT a featured artist when they clearly used her voice on the course and through out the song.

She was signed a production deal and wrote/cowrote added vocals to see if she sold well enough to support herself as an artist she was in-between then zoomba records or murder inc. murder inc didnt know if she was to be pitched as a pop or r&b artist. The aint it funny and im real was her final deal for production she had commercial success on her own but the industry would prove for her to be difficult as a solo artist who can write songs and melodies. JLo pushed for her to release another song that was given to jlo first then ashanti (which niether of the two released) theres a article in fhm from that time where ashanti was trying to promote concrete rose and she brought that up she had more success writing for other artists and was renegotiating her royalties being that she had solo success.

Not really...Yvettenever said Paula didnt sing the lead vocal but merely stated that her guide vocal was used as well. Layering vocals is a trick most people cant mentally notice but you feel the extra energy as though it were reverb and if you remove the track you are left with a thinner more basic performance but trained ears can often hear a layered track and in this case its no mistake that its being used under her lead vocal at certain parts as well as in parts of the chorus where Paula isnt singing at all but still lips the chorus as though she were. Its sneaky and neither woman's fault but the fault of whoever mixed and executively produced the song(and felt like the guide and bg vocals should be used in such a way that the listener might think its Paula). Its not a big deal though apart from the bad reputation that comes from the accusation and the attempt to sue the record company. Nobody was truly robbed...it was just clever(great mixing method) and kinda sneaky and Yvette Marine got greedy in the age of suing your way to a fortune.

At the time that Opposites Attract was being recorded in early April 1988 in Minneapolis, Paula was quoted to have a cold by some onlookers who were at the Creation Audio studios. Who knows what happened as a result of that, as the Forever Your Girl album completed recording that same month. OA was one of the last songs recorded for the album, did recording deadlines affect the end result?

First of all u gotta understand that Paula Abdul sang the whole album of forever your girl . They blended the vocals on I need you and knocked out it’s her but at the end background singer is belting those notes Paula can’t do that but it’s not like that wasn’t a common practice for any other singers that have less capabilities. Look back in the 60s and 70s a lot of singers especially female singers had back up singers in groups of 2 or 3 backing them and helping them out with some of the heavy parts especially like Diana Ross and the supremes and Tina turner also when some day we’ll be together was actually a solo song from Diana Ross but last min was given as the last single of the the supremes to end with. Those background vocals aren’t the supremes it’s other background singers. (Fun Fact)

I think that Paula has an average voice. Her voice is not that good, but she can sing there´s no doubt about that. I think that there must be other singers besides Milli Vanilli that did not sing their lead vocals in the recording studio. Paula’s voice is so distinctive, it’s obvious she is singing all her songs in her 3 albums . The song , I Need You is the weakest song on the Forever Your Girl album, I always skip it. There might be a backing voice on there, but Paula ‘s voice is there. Opposites Attract is definitely Paula’s voice!

I think she's saying that she recorded the demo (or guide) for Paula, which is just supposed to be used so the artist can learn the song. She's saying that they took her demo and actually layered it under Paula's voice on the final cut. She would like to be compensated for that.
