Good review! The V6, because it's significantly lighter than the V8, is better balanced and feels more nimble & responsive in turns than the V8 - Trans Am stabilizer bars (cheap in junkyards) bolt on to further improve handling - remember that the 1995 & up F bodies got the Series II 3800 with 200 Hp (just 5 less than the 1992 Trans Am 5.0L V8) and a 6100 RPM redline, much higher than the V8 rev limit - per a 1995 Motor Trend Firebird coupe test: 0-60 = 7.1 sec with mid- 15 second 1/4's in the high 80 MPH range - Pontiac even offered a performance package, including dual exhaust, on some V6 Firebird models - the F bodies with a 3.8L V6 could stay with period V8 Mustangs - the insurance is lower on the V6 vs the V8 - the 3800 engine, like the 3.1, is another very durable and reliable engine (a Wards Ten Best winner) with parts readily available - fuel economy is also much better than the V8 - a 3800 Firebird convertible, even more than the 3.1l that Sam did such a great job reviewing, is an undiscovered sleeper that rewards enthusiasts with strong acceleration, crisp handling, and sweet sounds from the high revving and throaty V6
