Lol 7.3s aren't known for being efficient on fuel. A 12 valve literally gets double the fuel mileage even while making double the power. Trust me. I own a 2001 7.3 and a 1995 12v Cummins. I dailied the Cummins for a year and recently got the newer 7.3. My Cummins is base trimmed and the 7.3 is Lariat with a much of nice ad ons. People think I like the 7.3 better I'm like nah man the rest of the truck yeah but that cummins was the best engine I ever owned. Just the rest of the truck was falling apart around it.

@@timesthree5757 What when its idling? Show me your calculations the 89 models don't have mpg readings. My 2001 lifted 4x4 black lariat crew cab short bed f250 7.3 I.D.I only has 128k miles and I drive 60 miles round trip to and from work every. Day. I live in Weatherford and I work at Arlington. Its 25 bucks of fuel per trip. Every. Day. That's insane. I used to make the same trip on my 12 valve, and it's a dually by the way. It doesnt matter if it had cargo or not. Every 2 days I'd have to put 20 in. It's like 2.50 per gallon where I live. The 12v was my first diesel, so like any teen I modded it. A lot. Too much by the way which is why I had to get a stock 7.3. Super slow. I don't love any of my trucks. My trucks mean nothing to me. They're work hogs and investments. Im giving a realistic point of view. I'm not bias I've actually driven both for a long time.

Great video! I've always put 260mm MOMO suede wheels (very small) with NRG quick release adapters on all my vehicles, including my IDI and 94 PSD! Great to see someone else who's put an 'unusual' steering wheel on their truck (ie: I've never seen someone else who has done this)! I love it! Also, the shifter is great! I had one like that on my ZF5, but changed it to one that was shorter than stock, and bent way back...... feels completely different (for a change)..... as you mention in the video, you can change the shifter whenever you feel like it. Great truck - thanks for sharing!

That’s such a sweet truck. As an owner of a 1st gen 7.3 Powerstroke I wished I had an idi because it’s all mechanical and no sensors to deal with, like my 7.3. But other than that I’ve loved the truck. And I’m 16 so I kinda wanted a truck but God made it happen and we got it for a steal. She’s my baby. She loves me and I love her.

True. I’ve done a lot to my truck to, like better seats, train horn, front and back led light bars(2* 3” & 2* 6”), fresher carpet, a PA system on Amazon for $30 and a backup beeper. It’s been a fun build and I’ve enjoyed it. I wish I had the ZF-5 instead of the E4OD, but then again the auto is easier to live with, but then again I’m not going long distance with it either that often. I’ve also replaced all my sensors in the engine compartment and the IPR, and it runs like a top with the fuel additive.

Loved stumbling across this video. I have an 85 Centurion F250. Its a big red, rusty beast, but super cab and the HD package with a locker Dana 70 out back makes for a pretty stout truck. I just finished swapping over to a NA 7.3 IDI from a 93 E350, due to the old 6.9 being seized up solid when I bought it. I'm still working through some fueling issues, and planning to go to an electric pump setup soon. But ditching the 4.10 gears for 3.55s are a goal and so is a ZF-5 swap. Eventually she'll be a good truck again. But there's still a lot of work left to go.

But the trans (E40D) I'm not sure about. 3rd gear seems to slip. I guess my question is during takeoff and first and second gear does that engine get pretty loud for you too? Yeah, I tend to feel it's a little counterproductive to swap out a 7.3 with a cummins. Nothing against the cummins, I could absolutely see swapping a busted 6.0 with a much more reliable 5.9 12 or 24 valve, but the 7.3 was a very reliable engine in it's own right and, in my opinion, deserves to have some love. Edit: and I just realized how old this thread is, so sorry for dredging that back up.

I always find it amazing that people add an intercooler to lower intake temps but put a k&n air filter on drawing hot air from the engine bay. Plumb the air intake in front of the radiator and you will see a 100° drop in intake temp when working the truck.
@nativeoutdoors1780
@nativeoutdoors1780 2 жыл бұрын
It's really not gonna drop it 100 since it would stick have to take the air into the engine bay anyway
@martyk1156
@martyk1156 2 жыл бұрын
@@nativeoutdoors1780 the velocity of the air through the intake system is to fast for a measurable heat transfer through the intake tube. There will be a temp rise after the turbo compresses it but that would be proportional to ambient air temperature at the point of intake. So the difference would still be outside temperature compared to engine bay temperature heated by big radiator that has 220° coolant in it when the truck is being worked.
@nativeoutdoors1780
@nativeoutdoors1780 2 жыл бұрын
@@martyk1156 yeah and the factory intake on most vehicle is right next to the radiator 🤦 But seriously though, idk how much difference it makes, I prefer oem style intakes because I worry more about protecting my intake from particulates rather than plus 1 hp but I would like to know just how much of a difference it makes
@martyk1156
@martyk1156 2 жыл бұрын
@@nativeoutdoors1780 my experience while monitoring with a scan tool on gas motors is that the ambient air temp sensor with factory style air induction reads close to the actual temperature reported by the weather. In a fully warmed up car at idle not being worked it with a k&n filter set up its about a 60° rise above outside temp. I can only imagine it going up closer to the air temperature after the radiator when under load.

Those squared off diff covers dont allow the proper amount of gear oil to the axel tubes or bearings. Watch Banks power's video on diff covers. They dont have one of their ram air covers for Ford yet so factory is better imo until banks gets one for us super duty guys.
