@5:48 There is a "Boot" that covers the top when the top is down for a finished look. In fact it's the boot that you see in the trunk of that vehicle. It locks in around the outside edge like you would imagine a pontoon boat cover, and finally locks in under that latch which you show.

Transmission issues were generally limited to the 4-speeds of the era, in particular the ultradrives. Much of the issues dealt with maintenance of course, but not always a lack of it. While a lack of maintenance could doom the ultradrive, a more common cause for failure resulted from using improper fluid. Many shops use a base ATF fluid and add supplements to bring up to code w/ mopar ATF specifications; but because of base oil incompatibility, it usually caused failure of the transmission within 10's to 100's of miles of service as the bands kept adjusting and eating themselves up. The 3 speed autos paired with 2.2's, 2.5's, and the turbo versions of these engines did not suffer these problems and thus had fairly typical to good reliability for the era.

This is a base model Lebaron. A tach was available on the next trim level. We have a 1989 GTC and the windows all work fine. It is a common issue but fixable. The Lebaron was redesigned in 1987 and had a square dash until 1990 when they updated to this style. The label in the trunk is to lock or unlock the release lever beside the seat.

I drove a 1995 LeBaron in the late 90s and put about 70k miles on it, and currently own a 82’ LeBaron. So the rear side windows are an afterthought added in 1984. They never failed on me since my car was only 4 years old when I sold it. The problem is the window motor is located at the bottom. Since these cars are over 30 years old, the drains are always clogged and the window motors simply rusted out. Because these cars aren’t collectors car and not worth much, very few owners are willing to spend the money to fix rear windows. This is why so many surviving LeBarons have broken rear side windows. The later J-body LeBarons such as this one have the exact same dashboard as the Dodge Daytona, no doubt a cost cutting measure. It also reflects the change of buyer demographics Chrysler was aiming for. The top trim 1982 LeBaron was sold for $15,000 new, when you could have bought a new Mustang or Camaro for only $10,000. The 1995 LeBaron MSRP was about $17-18K. Consider inflation, it was a much cheaper car aiming for a much younger demographic with less income. As you said not as luxurious because it was no longer aiming for the silent generation buyers.

Also, we saved this car from being scrapped. The owner was going to junk it since the city was sending them parking violations for it being there. In the short amount of time between us getting it, fixing it so it would behave properly, and Zach coming out to film stuff we didn't get a chance to clean it. It was cleaned up nice afterwards before we sold it to yet another college girl who will hopefully not treat it like the previous owner.
