It looks like you are a very good mechanic. Reminds me of my Dad. He grew up during the depression and he could do a lot of things. He could work on cars, build houses, pour concrete, etc. If it was mechanical he could usually figure it out. He would work on steering, rear ends, etc. I never got that far. I can work on engines, brakes, and the easy stuff. I remember cold winter nights when I had to hold the flashlight for him to fix his car so he could go to work on Monday. I hated every minute of it but now I am so glad he made me do it because I was learning. I have a 1992 F150 2WD so I enjoyed your video.

Just did one of this on an 89 yesterday. A set of punches are a lot better for getting cotter pins out. Just start with a smaller punch to get the pin to start moving. Next get a punch that's just smaller then the hole to finish driving it out. Takes 2-3minutes per pin. Rusty and nasty as they were they all came out fine

You did a great job of winning each successive challenge as they occurred. I bought a 95 from Tennessee that is rust-free and it needs ball joints both sides. I shouldn't have anywhere near the challenges you did. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great video. It's the same setup as my 1995 F150 5.0L 4x4. I'm thinking about ordering the complete mevotech front end kit on Rock Auto and was interested to see how much grief it is to get it all apart. I had it apart for ball joints years ago and remembered it being pretty awful but I'm a better DIY mechanic than I was back then.

Thanks a ton for this , I had a genius “ helping” me change mine , he said he needed to take the knuckles away from my shop to be able to get the old ones out, this was after he very nearly broke my ball joint press. So I looked at the knuckles and it appeared to me ( I’ve never replaced ball joints) that he was pressing them the wrong direction. He basically laughed and told me I was crazy and didn’t know what I was talking about. So I ran him off and watched your video and had the old ones out in about 30 minutes. So thank you very much!
@AllAmericanGuyExpert
@AllAmericanGuyExpert 3 жыл бұрын
There's a lip on both preventing that ... the knuckle may win if you try to jam the ball joints into the lip. See 20:46 ... You have to go "up" with them both.

Thanks dude. I've got a 94 F150 4x4 . Have replaced most of the frontend components already, but still have to tackle those ball-joints. Yes, if you have to replace one major component then you're most likely going to replace everything. Even if you think one or more pieces are still serviceable it's still wise to just bite the bullet and do it all . . . provided you can afford the parts.

Mine is also a nightmare. after busting my hand multiple times, I bout a nice chisel set from Harbor Freight. The nut on the upper ball joint, I used my torches too heat it and it came off nicely. Great Job and attitude. Good Talking about what you are doing and why. Mine is a 1995 F150 4x4 302 with 326,000 miles on it.

I have a 93 ford f150 xl 5.8 single cab, with the short bed. Looks alot like a bronco. Any ways tire wiggles, and about to try to fix the old bird my self. Wondering if that in the process of fixing my inner tierod, is it possible to repair my 4x4. My wheels lock up when I try to drive it in 4x4 hi gear. Wondering what that can possibly be. Any suggestions? Thank you for your video. 2nd time watching it.

Skip the WD-40. It's a waste of time and money. Kroil is the best on the market. I work with 35 other mechanics and they all agree. WD-40 is a great tar and bug remover, on moving metal parts it actually makes things worse.
