I have recently been given this same motor and I am currently watching all of you videos and doing everything you have done! Would you be able to tell me how much gear oil it takes to fill the lower unit?

Not sure on the exact amount but it was less than a quart. And boy did I make a mess.

Did you spay the self etching over paint or bare metal. I was going to use self etching primer but have read where it will lift if spayed over paint even if its sanded?

I couldn't find the paints I wanted so I sanded it down and used the best primer I could find. Then gave it two good coats of color with a quick sand between each. Still on the hunt for a flatboat to see how good it stuck! Will update when I get a chance to take the motor fishing.

The etching primer I used did not lift any paint, sorry not to answer your question in first reply.

Do u remember the name of the black gasket material

Got the gasket material in the kit. I wish I knew the brand and thickness, I would keep some around.
