The Fellow was a great horse and he did me some favours financially around that time

The Fellow was one of my favourite steeplechasers of all time. In many ways I'm not sure he got the credit he deserved?

trackside 77 I agree with you. People forget that The Fellow would also have earned 3 Gold Cup wins because twice he finished 2nd with only one muzzle! People also forget that he won the biggest races on both sides of the Channel and the other "champions" did not succeed as well. In this race, The Fellow's jockey was certain his horse was superior to the others and he just waited. The acceleration he produces just before the last fence ridicules his opponents and proves that he was not in the same class ....

@@litogor Along with Mandarin he's the only horse to win the Cheltenham and French Gold Cup.

The Fellow went on to win the Gold Cup at Cheltenham less than fifteen months later in 1994.
