I think every fact that Barrie Gill mentioned about Stig Blomqvist was wrong. He won 11 World Championship rallies - the WRC did not start until 1973. He did not win the RAC in 1976, Roger Clark did. He won the Championship for Audi in 1984, not 1964.

I've seen them on video, I've seen them live, the GTi-R never looked comfortable handling wise, something inherently wrong with their balance. Plenty of power though, in fact they were the most powerful of all of the Group A cars in stock form, with road test reports covering the 1/4 mile in just 13 seconds, which is considerably higher performance than the advertised 220hp.

Because the GTi-R was a hot hatch before and until Toyota's Yaris GR was introduced into the public eye circa last year, especially when these two performance cars are honestly JAPANESE as Toyota and Nissan does. But with Nissan no longer competing in the WRC, why wouldn't the former abandon its partnership with Renault and thus have Toyota take over Nissan ALONE instead? Especially if only the GTi-R would be rebooted from the now-almighty Yaris GR.

Yeah, the GTI-R was, unfortunately, a not-so-good competitor. It looks like the driver has to really be careful around the bends otherwise it's driver side door meets tree or post.

@@retroybd2780 That was why it (GTI-R) had no match for the Celica (ST165-ST185) that competed with Nissan's last main WRC weapon, especially the reason why the GTI-R wasn't a good challenger was because its bodyshell looked similar to a Honda Civic since the latter isn't even preferrable in rallying as Honda (the brand of cars) does. Toyota has been well-known in and out of the WRC for decades and this is why imagine Toyota buying Nissan from Renault would make Nissan (too) great again with the help of Toyota, Subaru is already a Toyota partner but it lacks the size both Nissan and Toyota handles...
